The 78 vs 85 MAF tables are very different. That alone will totally alter your A/F ratio way out of parameter from what’s requested. Even within 85mm cars the tables are similar but revised. Example is ‘01 is different to ‘02.
If you were local to Atlanta I could put the maf tables from a 85mm car into your 78mm tables and that should be settled. Any tuner should be able to help. From there people try to fine tune the maf but I leave those tables factory and alter the other more typical items to my liking.
You mention FRC so the the fog light area is blocked off.
On the C5z the screens leave the nose area open to cold air at speed and the Blackwing I have on my ‘01z has all kinds of garbage like bug carcasses that need to be cleaned off with the (cleaning) kit. Why are there large pieces of clutter on the section that’s not connected to the radiator area??? -because if you have Z06 bumper screens you have plenty of cool air and even pieces of insects making it’s way to the Blackwing or similar system.
The Honker pulls air from a hacked hole in the radiator area… it’s a large volume of air but still kissed by the hot coolant system before honked into the intake.
I’m not biased, in fact I personally really like Reeves Callaway. I test drove his personal supercharged C6 with him riding shotgun.
He signed the fuel rail cover on the C5z I daily drove back then and still own today. This doesn’t change physics. If the Honker was that much better I’d say keep at it, but there are simpler options for your setup that aren’t bad at all especially if you have Z06 screens.
Fog light area blocked off is easily fixed in 10 minutes with a dremmel. I did this 20 years ago to my 99 coupe. I ran a Blackwing for decades with the aftermarket screens that are not only NOT bent, they are still on that car as it sits today.
I ditched the Blackwing after a visit to Cartek and they recommended a Vararam. Not the best quality but track proven. My brother beat his consistent track times after a Vararam install. After that I was sold. Instalation was an hour maybe. Everything went together easIly and as it should. It's a bit flexy and cheaply made but it worked well for years.
Now post procharger the Blackwing and the Vararam sit comfortably next to one another on a shelf in my garage.
Here is my twist on my Honker…….filter disappeared and had to order a new one so I modded it while out.
TRUE ram air now and it runs very good! Need to check if I’m getting close to running out of injector duty cycle at 140+.
It is nice work, but I'd be concerned about any potential reduction in cooling capacity. The shroud is already a high pressure zone so the air will find its way. The C5 has a noticeably bigger opening for the radiator than the 4th gen Camaro, also a bottom feeder. I would assume this is for a reason.

First, nice solo stove. I got one of the last 30" they offered and love it.
I also dig what you've done here as I have been a promoter of the BPP vortex rammer since 01 and have ran it on two na C5s happily. Your metal scoop is a great idea. I might even have made it deeper to pocket more air. There is a sotp difference stock vs cut through at speed.
As for OP re maf... Why not get a blade maf if you're not going to go sd? Any change requires a tune in this case. I don't think the car is choking at all by sticking to the 78 tb / maf combo but the change to LS2/3/7 tb and larger maf certainly won't hurt. Hopefully the tuner knows how to set the tb percentage so it works with the older ecu. I forget which, bit it is either 93 or 97 percent tb actuation is set to equal 100 percent in the ecu to avoid that issue.
Good times. I'd see about a matching silicon filter to maf adapter. They must be out there. And an outerwear pre filter for anything risking direct exposure to wet leaves, debris.
I did initially experience reduced engine cooling but it was at higher speeds over 85-90 mph. I took a look and it was the bottom center air dam that is spring loaded.....it was pivoting at high speed and butting up against the back of the scoop. Two small holes in the air dam and two SS zip ties holding it away from contacting the rear of the scoop and problem solved. In 115 F phoenix with AC on high it runs about 199-206.
Before the zip tie it was 220 at anything over 85 mph....all good now......tested at 160+ and it just pulls. Got a little KR in the upper speeds, thinking a bit lean now but can only tell in data logs.

If possible, I would stick with the Callaway Honker - a true cold air intake. I ran a Blackwing on my last two C5s and while it worked very well, it is not a cold air intake.
