Well, ridiculous depends on where you take it. An independent shop will probably cost less than a dealer. Is there a possibility you could replace it yourself and save the money? What was your quote?

Here is a replacement video. Do you have the special tool?

I did this myself, however, anything over $450.00 would be ridiculous.
That price would mean doing it the correct way, taking the intake off and replacing all intake seals.
prices will vary depending how they do it.

Change it yourself (it's easy) and put in a remote relocation kit so you can change it in 10 minutes the next time it fails!

X3!! Good time to familiarize yourself with your car! Look at it this way; the ls1 intake in a C5 is one of the easiest to remove intakes ever made, your learning about how your car is put together, and you paid yourself at least $200 to do the job!! As for the $200 you got paid to do it yourself, look at that part this way; you now have at least $200 to spend on something else for the car! Oh, and don't replace the problem with another OEM sender. I usually favor OEM parts for replacing repair items, but NOT the oil sender. I've got an El cheapo O'Reilly 1 year guarantee part I bought there years ago. Still works fine, no leaks. BTW, make sure you look up the torque value of the sender. This is one item that should be torqued, and I can't remember what the value is.....

I used a dremel tool and cut a square out of the bottom of the wiper tray and did it myself. Saved the piece and put it back with some RTV. You can't see it once everything is put back together - and should it have to be done again the RTV can be cut with a razor. Not to everyone's liking I'm sure - but one option to consider....

Do you have a pic of exactly where you cut?
Thanks!

I paid about $350 at the local Chevy dealer this summer, of course they want to "diagnose" it first to make sure so that was part of the cost. That and their labor rate is currently $185 / hr or so.

When you have the intake off be sure to also change the passenger side air valve and install an OPS relocation kit.

Regardless of who pulls the intake, make sure the small vacuum line at the back of the manifold is reattached. If it gets missed you won’t have hvac control and other issues.

My shop changed it using a socket wrench universal fitting per a video I found. When they busted the new one putting it in, they swallowed the cost. Poor design to begin with, should be easier to change.
