My father was selling his very used C5 50th anniversary hardtop manual. Asked for a family price and picked it up very cheap.
it needs some work, differential needs a rebuild (replacement is more likely), needs new seats and paint job. Clocked in at 140k.
It’ll be a daily driver for many years so I intend to keep it stock on the drivetrain. Plans are to paint it, lower it, wheels and maybe some other tasteful mods to make it mine but nothing gaudy. it came with a Billy boats(?) catback which I’m very happy with and a knock off k&n filter cartridge. So far I’ve cleaned it, changed most of the fluids (brake and clutch this weekend) and replaced the filter for a stock paper one. If anyone wants that filter it’s free plus shipping, I thinks it’s afe or spectre.
joined to shop for parts and ask questions. If anyone is interested I’ll document what I end up doing with it along the way.
Welcome. I moved you to the C5 forum. There you can meet other C5 owners, get info and see the parts section. I see you are from NC, it will help others help you if you include the city in your profile
Strange that the rear end needs work. Hard to kill those on stock power in my experience. I'd call Jason at TDP and see what he's got available. Also Murica, RKT, and RPM. But price climbs as you go left to right on that list and quality has a lower delta to price.
Welcome to the Forum from Hickory, NC, and congratulations on your C5!
There are other C5 owners who have started a thread about their resto updates or mods and have updated it from time to time. It usually provides a good sense of steps others may take if they also attempt any of the procedures you do.
You may want to address your differential issue in the C5 Tech section (https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-1997-2004-2/). Address your concerns about the diff (constant noise; noise on acceleration or deceleration; one wheel appears to be slipping while the other wheel has traction, etc), and get input from other C5 owners. As Tusc said, the C5 diff normally is sufficient and long lasting if the car has not been modified for increased horsepower or really been hammered with high rpm clutch dumps for a significant period of time.
Best wishes with all you efforts. Sounds like a nice plan to have an attractive, comfortable daily driver.
Thanks everyone. Still driving it on the bad diff it’s just to damn fun not too

I’ll definitely check them out, it was making some noise before I changed the fluid, when I drained it it was extremely silver with some small metal chunks mixed it. The noise didn’t change at all afterwords. I think it’s from lack of maintenance to be honest with you. Been shopping for a 3.42 diff those mfers are expensive so I’ll check out your sources.
I was going to pm you but your account is too new. All those vendors have great reputations and customer service. I promote Jason because he's who I bought from. And while im sure prices continue to rise recently in the market, he was very fair about pricing with me when I had to source a base 6060 and C6Z diff for my project.

yeah I’m trying to get some stuff going so I can be verified here, shouldn’t be too long. Jason at TDP, is that a local shop name or is that an acronym for someone else? I’m new to lake Norman and corvettes you’ll have to treat like a newbie
Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the car! Post up some pics. A new paint job is going to cost you a lot. As for the Diff, RPM can get your diff completely bulletproof on a stock motor. However, you may want to reach out to Zip Corvette in Virginia. They are a quality parts vendor here on the forum, but they also have a shop and rebuild rear diffs. Looking forward to hearing about your progress. Let us know if you have any questions.

I already found some great options for the diff through the suggestions I’ve gotten, can’t thank everyone enough
