Latest information on C5 front windshield replacement?
Well after almost 20 years of getting by with the original windshield, I'm at the point I n÷d to replace it. Does anybody have the latest information concerning availability of parts. The last news I had was that Corvette Rubber was working on an aftermarket replacement for the top molding though that had been going on for quite some time. Also wondering about availability of the windshield itself. I currently had a hud one but in a jam i understand non-hud will work. I have found a good experienced glass installer so i have that part done. Anyone been through this lately?
In process of replacing mine on 03 Z06. No luck on thinner Z spec glass. HUD is available. FRC / Z06 style without antenna also available. Safelite took 1 week for first one to be delivered. Had a faint scratch and I rejected it. Second one arrived one week later. will find out tomorrow if quality is acceptable.
So yes, windshields are available. Not so the top trim/seal. We'll find out if it can be reused or a universal style will work.

Sorry about not updating sooner. Good and not so good info. That Monday morning received a call from installer - second windshield arrived and again had a scratch defect. I am heading out for the trip next week and decided to wait until I return for the install. Gives them a chance to get a good one. I have to commend Safelite in Green Bay for being up front and holding a high standard on the glass quality.
On a more positive note, I did find the top seal at Wholesale GM Parts Online (P/N 10427732 Molding. Reveal. Upper retainer. Windshield) for $28 plus shipping. It is supposed to ship tomorrow direct from their supplier.
So kind of on hold till I return on Sept 13th. What Safelite noticed is the two defected windshields are NOS. Maybe suppliers are trying to off load old returns?? Catalogue does show as current and in production. Patiently waiting. Fortunately, car is still usable.

The molding part that you referenced isn't the one that was discontinued. Windshield weather-strip-10333466 is the one that you can't get anymore. You better check with safelight that you ordered the right part.

Well now I'm more confused than before. Now it's a wait and see thing. I am finding very conflicting and confusing part numbers from the online part store about which part fits which models. This is supposed to have the seal and reveal molding. Too much for this senior to digest without a stiff drink!

I recently had my windshield replaced by a local glass shop. Shop told me they had 2 sources to order from, and both showed the windshield was in stock, no waiting. Well, I waited nearly a month for it!! Finally got it installed a couple weeks ago. I made it clear that the rubber piece was no longer available, so PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! They were, and did a great job. It seems like everything right now is TOTALLY FOOKED UP!!!!! Seems like nobody wants to do their job anymore. Even the medical field/Pharmaceutical industry has issues. My goodness, how on Earth did office workers get by 40 years ago, doing a good job, with half as many people using NO computers??!!!
Well... Folks did not feel that they were owed everything.... Although I too felt my car company owed me a product that would last at least 20 years! ... 18 wheeler kicks a stone that cracks windshield... GM should provide a windshield seal that should allow glass replacement so its customers can legally drive their frigin cars!... They don't. A judge can fine your ***, put you in jail for driving a car with a cracked windshield... No GM part available so WE go to jail?
Normal "sparing" for a production car is about 10-12 years. The newest C5's are 18 years old. The spares situation for C5's is only going to get worse. Maybe time to buy a parts car like the classic car guys do?

you can get just about any part for older corvettes. Heck, you could build one from scratch with a few parts catalogs! I'm just surprised the aftermarket hasn't kicked in for the C5 yet. If they would focus more on important parts like this and less on Chrome garbage
I would reach out to Corvette Rubber, and see what they say. Everything else you need is available.
this "Corvette Rubber" ... Is this a "for real" company?.. and worthy of trust? How much longer must we Corvette owners with busted glass wait for "Corvette Rubber" and the Windshield Elastomer seal, they claim to provide, to be available for application and testing? Time is waisting away while Corvettes around the country are parked without a windshield.... I'm asking for a time line, I guess I'm wondering if it's even gonna happen..... what being GM and all.

True true... and a first class company would provide the needed plans to another source for critical parts BEFORE they dumped its customers in the toilet!... That's how it is done by first class supply companies but not GM.
I just received my order for the top windshield seal and it darn sure looks like the one on my car, but I haven’t attempted to install yet. I got it from gm parts direct and I don’t know if it’s just old stock left over or they have these normally. I am shocked but definitely looks to be the real deal part #10427732.
Hey Runsdeep, great news!.. Windshield seal you recently got for your C5 on your car now? Dose it whistle.?... Whistling windshield is... My greatest fear!

Arlen,
have not installed yet but I would assume it is the same as stock as long as installed correctly.
