Hey guys. Been following this forum for a few days. I drive a 2014 Cts VSport. Fairly capable track car for my 3-4 sport driving days a year. I have buddies who are Vette devotees and am impressed. Love my Corvette in a tuxedo but I have a habit of wanting a new ride evry few years.
i may want to try a low milage C5 or C6 for my daily and occasional track ride. Love performace but only the most cost effective. I have modded many cars to reach that attitude.
I have my eye on a 2007 Z51 but lots of big fans out there of the C5 Z06. Love to hear your thoughts.
From: In a parallel universe. Currently own 2014 Stingray Coupe.

Moving this to C5 General for some comments. At some point you may want to check with the members in the C6 section to see about the C6 generation cars.
Welcome to the forum! The C5 Z is a great drivers car that offers a more raw experience than the C6. I think the C5 Z06 would be the better choice for track driving, but the C6 is better for daily driving. I personally have a strong preference for the looks of the C5 over the C6, but that comes down to personal taste. Either way though, you can't go wrong.

Thank you for the welcome. I will try to get up to speed on navigating the site. It was noted that the post was moved to the C5 and C6 area. I will try to find that. I am looking at a few cars.
Best...
Regarding the OP, as others have suggested the C5 Z06 is the car for tracking right out of the box. On the other hand coupes have better aero at high speeds and are a more comfortable ride for street driving. They are both beautiful cars.
Z06 sounds great but street then track is my priority.
z51 sounds great but very rare. The guy with the branded Z51 / ATS turbo setup w/ 45k wont get back after I offered $20k. I don't think it justifies any more.
The 04 garage queen (12k mile) is stil intriguing. I have to drive a nice C6 before I decide to give up the tuned Caddy. Dont have room for both. Will decide after vacation next week.

On the 04 with 12000 miles, is the guy asking 26K ?
I had the same exact problem you have. Lack of room. I had a low mileage CTS-V Sedan. Modded it. 560/605 ttt. Ran good. I wanted another car. I wanted a C6 Z06. I found there was way more value in the C5 so I found one for under 15k with 75k on it. The LS1 is a great motor. I wanted a clutch so M6.
I sold my Caddy and never looked back. It was an auto and pretty boring. If it was a manual I might still have it today. The thing I find amusing is the fact my Vette pulls down 30 mpg on the highway! My Caddy got 10 mpg around town. With a 16 gallon fuel cell, every time I drove it I had to gas it up.

I have both a C5Z and a C6. I also owned a 2010 CTS-V sedan that was a daily at one time. I use the C6 as a daily as my C5Z is modified and I don't care to drive a manual for a daily due to the high volumes of traffic that is in my area. Even if my C5Z was stock I still wouldn't use it as a daily. A base C6 that is a non Z51 is going to give you a much more comfortable ride, easier to get in and out of, and they come standard with 2.73 gears so gas mileage is pretty good. There is a HUGE difference in ride quality between the non z51 and a Vette that comes with it.. There is more tech in the C6 as well so upgrading isn't as costly and you are already starting better off.
Many will tell you to go LS3(it's what I have) instead of the LS2, but honestly if you are looking to just daily one with occasionally track outing the LS2 will do just fine.
A few days?... My advice you're asking for?... Is to familiarize with Corvette for a while.... Still don't know much? Well... Perhaps you're a Cadillac kinda guy.
I will be driving aC5 and C6 bext weekend after vacation. You are right that I need to try them on to compare. I have always liked the idea of a Vette. Years ago, I drove an 88/89, I hated the harsh ride, go cart seats and the long long nose that felt like it had steering lag.
l love the looks of the C5 / 6, and have been told that my concerns are no longer an issue there.
Thanks guys,
just need to climb in and drive. I wanted to hang in the forum a bit to see how owners feel about them.
I am used to good power and TT punch.
204 C5 400 hp 3245 - 8.11 #s / hp and up to 30 mpg cruising. CTs vsport TT (v6) 420 hp 3992 - 9.5 #s /hp. 25 mpg cruising.
I love the vette look - I will decide after driving. Should be interesting.
