Just bought new Kenwood double din gps/digital for my C5. Measurements for unit front match my OEM bezel. Am I going to have to replace my original bezel? If so, how and why do I describe to whomever what I need? My original impression was that the new unit was just going to replace the radio and appeared to be in the same position. Am I looking to buy new one or cutting and filing to make fit?
There is a unit made by Joying that mostly fits the stock Bezel. The stock bezel is one and a half DIN. As such anything other than the stock head unit is really either too big or too small. There are filler plates that you can get in order to use a single DIN HU. If you've found a Kenwood double din that fits the stock bezel, we will all want the exact model number, but my bet is that it will not fit. There is a company called Metra that makes double din bezels for the C5. Vettenuts also makes them. You can google C5 Corvette double din bezel. Several options will pop up. DO NOT buy the one from Corvette Mods. They are not a reputable company. Take a close look at the options. Most will not have the flip cover for the "cup holder". Also be aware the the texture will likely not be a perfect match for the rest of your interior. I know that some have chosen to get the aftermarket Bezel/console painted, wrapped, or hydro dipped. There are a lot of options out there. Good luck!
Stereo size is measured in "din". Usual single or double din. The engineers at GM decided to use a very non standard 1.5 din in the C5. You will have to modify yours or buy a double din bezel to fit your new stereo. They are available from many of the vendors and even eBay.

I opted for the Metra unit over Vettnuts because IMHO Vettnuts opted to retain the ashtray and door and kept the HVAC control in its space which literally crams the DD radio in the space above. I didn't like the look.
The metra unit arrived and while it was what I was looking for as far as spacing and the delete of the ashtray, the door , and the cupholder door, the texture of the coating was not desirable. I took it to a friend's body shop few days ago and he spray it with a satin hard top coat . He says it turned out nice. I have not seen it yet.
I will pick it up this morning. I will post pictures of the finished product. Hopefully it brings it closer to OEM sheen and hardness. I was not a fan on how easily the Metra kit can smudge or scratch so easily even before I installed it.
The mismatch in texture does not bother me. My C7's console was not a match to the rest of the car. It was flat black from the factory. It was fine.
Picked up the semi gloss cleared Metra bezel. He added a little matt to tone it down a bit. We were going for satin, but it was out of stock. Pleased with the outcome. Total to clear it $ 40.00
