Default Windshield- repair or risk it

Anyone have any experience with a windshield replacement going well and reusing the trim?
I've got a series of chips. And even though new glass would be preferable. What happens if the trim cannot be salvaged?

My car was done very nicely using the original trim. I'm not a windshield replacement guy, but I can't tell it's ever been changed. Done at a local glass shop in business for at least 70 years. I told them about the replacement trim not being available, so maybe it helped giving the heads up, IDK. What I do know is that it took them over a month to get it! Their suppliers all said they had them in stock. Uh, yeah, OK.......

I had a major crack in my winshield, and had no choice. I used a local glass shop that my body shop works with. It turned out really well. With that said, if all you have is chips, I would hold off. Supposedly Corvette Rubber will have a replacement part "soon". Good luck.

I'm so reluctant to take on this replacement job... You know, reuse the old sealing gasket.. GM's give a damn attitude towards replacing the cracked windshield of their product with new parts has me reluctant to attempt the fix. .... I don't like a whistling, leaking windshield while driving ...so is a NEW seal required?.. No GM seal available... I'll just drive around with it cracked?..guess so.. Mary's GM answer.. We at GM don't care.

Chips too big for a chip repair specialist? You know, the old "does it fit under a dime" question.

I think all my chips fit under a dime. But at tge same time, a spotless clear view would be nice

I recently got a rock chip in my windshield (Z06). I knew that that might be a hard to find item ( glass and seals), so I has Safelite repair right away, can even see it unless you look really hard. Get the chips fixed, you might not have a perfect windshield anymore, but all the seals will be intact.

If the trim cannot be salvaged during a windshield replacement, it will need to be replaced with new trim. Using damaged or missing trim can affect the seal, leading to potential leaks, wind noise, or water damage. While replacing trim adds to the cost, it’s important for proper installation, safety, and a clean finish.
