Default Added fiber optics

I couldn't resist using the valuable real estate on the back of the aftermarket raised hood for a monitor that shows power to the radiator fans, fuel pump and A/C compressor clutch for quick operating status and troubleshooting. Along with those leds is a digital gage showing the fuel rail pressure. I always liked the C3 fiber optic light monitors and added a similar system to the C5 on either side of the monitor for a total of 12 channels. Each fiber optic cable is plastic with a clear center diameter of 0.040" OD and a black plastic shield of 0.087" OD, someone at work was throwing it out years ago so I took it. The camera makes the lights look brighter and not as sharp as in real life and also amplifies any reflections. The first thing a passenger wants to know is "What's that?" pointing to the red digital readout. I posted this for something different to look at than the usual stuff.

Here's the view at night, the fiber optics are on the left and right sides with the front lights on top and rear lights on the bottom. The brakes are on including the third brake light and the high beams are on.

A closeup at night in a different location, the license plate light cable isn't aligned to the source yet so it doesn't show up on the bottom right.

A running daytime view.

A closup running daytime view. Both fans are on high, the fuel pump is on and the A/C is off. The daytime running lights are on.

It's an old Specter Werkes hood.

Interesting.

Can that all be dimmed out with the interior lighting for blackout driving?

[QUOTE=Tusc;1605688234]Interesting.

Can that all be dimmed out with the interior lighting for blackout driving?

Not the fiber optics, the led brightness isn't controlled by the dimmer switch but it could be made to go off with the addition of a relay driven by the dimmer switch. There's a light sensor molded into the readout that sends the outside ambient light level to an led brightness control. Trimmers on the drive circuit board set the level for total darkness and for operation in sunlight so anything in between is adjusted by the circuit, the dark adjustment is set so it's just visible in total darkness. The pictures shown make the led light look a lot brighter than it is, the same is true of the fiber optics.

That is pretty cool - way to think outside the box and make a unique mod on you car.
