Default Tire options..

I need to replace the tires on my newly acquired 2K Coupe. I am looking for opinions of those who live in Florida or anywhere else it rains HARD on which tires work the best in the wet. I don't plan on tracking the car (yet..) but would like a good performing tire in the dry but that can handle the downpours Florida gets. Thanks.

I live in SW Florida and have a great recommendation for you. I have General G-Max RS Ultra High Performance Summer tires on my 2006 Convertible for 14,100 miles and really like them. I had them installed in June 2021. I switched from Michelin run-flats. The Generals have great wet traction as well as great dry traction and road feel and steering response is superior to the run flats. They are great performance tires for the money. Summer tires are fine all year long in Florida. Here is a picture from yesterday. As you can see, they wear very well. The rears typically do show more wear than the fronts. Remember this is with 14,100 miles of wear. As you can tell from the picture it was just raining actually pouring. The roads dry quickly here.

You might want to consider the Yokohama V601's.

You're welcome.
They have great reviews on Tire Rack and in this Hot Rod magazine article: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/gene...ires-are-made/
The Generals seem unaffected by the rain and I have been driving in some pretty bad storms lately.

Bridgestone potenza pole position tires on my car. It’s not a run flat and is a Y rated tire. Has excellent reviews for hydroplane resistance from tire rack, and similar reviews for dry traction compared to most other tires.

check them out.

Ive had General all seasons on my daily drivers too. I’ve never had a problem with those. I haven’t tried the General Gmax on the vette, but I wouldn’t be afraid to since I’ve had good luck on my daily’s.

Good wet and dry traction, not a fan of how they handle in the corners though.

Ran a set of those tires on my last two C5s and was very pleased with the performance.

I installed Goodyear Eagle Exhilarates on my 99 in May, they are holding up really well. Purchased from TireRack.

Never had an issue with Tire Rack. As for tires, if you want a good, sticky, Summer tire, you may have to slow down, and/or pull over when it starts raining. Tires like the Nitto 555R are great for all around use, with the slight exception of high speed cornering, and wet traction. But the best sticky tires are not going to be all that great in the rain. Especially Florida rain! Without knowing your power level/driving habits/how you'll use the tire, etc, it's impossible to make an accurate recommendation. I know the next time I buy rear tires, I'm going with Nitto 555R drag radials. Some say they can be used in the wet weather, if you reduce your speed, and they last up to 10,000 miles, longer than most DRs. I still have my OEM rear wheels, and have a good Summer tire mounted to them, for long trips. This is akin to having your cake, and eating it, too. I ran 315/30/18 Michelin PS2s on the rear for years. But with a tire that wide, I had to buy 10.5" wheels. They had a 200 tire wear rating, so they were somewhat soft/grippy, but nowhere near what I really needed for straight line grip for a 600hp LS7. The Nitto 555R has a 100 tread wear rating, so should help with traction, but the tradeoff is greater wear, and some loss of high speed cornering, which doesn't concern me, as I don't try impersonating Ron Fellows on the backroads. I hope this helps somewhat......

I'm having Conti extreme sports , summer tires put on tomorrow....thru tire rack...road force balanced...Im in Fl., expensive; but i know i will like them, I was afraid to get the others mentioned, really concerned I wouldn't like them or find some fault about them...I had the summer Michelins put on my 2000 a few years back and they were awesome, lots of fast driving, gotta have confidence, I'm taking off the 8 year old tiger paw whatevers...with 3500 miles on them, they are awful, this on my new 2001 C5 coupe garage queen, now my daily D, but doing less than 5k a yr.now....

Another vote for the Nitto 555G2. Ran the original 555s for over 100K miles (3 sets) on my old Coupe and had the G2s on it when I sold it last year. My new to me Vert got a set of 555G2s the first month I had it. Great tires, quiet, great in the rain as well as the dry. Reasonably priced as well.

I'm currently running Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They are great in the dry, and the wet. Unfortunately, they don't make them anymore. Next year, I'll be replacing them with Coninental ExtremeContact Sports.

I would love to have the straight line grip of of the 555R. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to sacrifice my cornering ability. I have the most fun in the corners.

I had to go to FL this week and got a chance to get a close look at the car. It has Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3 currently down to the wear bars. Not looking for a track tire or a dedicated dry tire, not yet at least. I will be using the car for long road trips (Florida to Michigan) so I am leaning toward a good AS tire as opposed to a max dry performance tire.
