I had to buy a new wheel for my 2004 C5. How do you get the center cap off without breaking it ? It appears to be either aluminum or plastic and I just don't want to start prying with a large screwdriver. Anybody ?
It is plastic with an aluminum skin. All you have to do is apply pressure to the back of it. With the wheel off the car, it should be very easy to just pop it right out. Be gentle. It is held in place by plastic tabs.
You should be able to just grab it with your hand and give it a good pull. If that doesn't work, then remove the wheel from the car, and push it out from the back. Don't use a pry tool. The cap is just plastic.
What kind of wheels are those and do you have a picture that shows the whole car with them?

Those are Cray Manta wheels designed so that the C5 Corvette center cap attaches perfectly. I'll post a photo of my '98 as soon as I can take a photo...

Take the wheel off, then gently tap the back of the center cap with the handle of a hammer or even a screwdriver - the center cap should pop right off. Be sure to have some old rags or a blanket on the ground for the center cap to fall on to prevent scratches.
