I have a soft spot for C5s. I've had plenty of chances and the blessing of additional funds these past few years to get any C6, C7 or C8 (non Z06) I wanted. I just didn't want any of them enough.

My wife tried to talk me into a C8 contingent on the C5s all going away. The C8s don't really do it for me like my current and first C5 does. Sentimental value and sweat equity has some influence as well. So I procharged my forged H/C/I '99 coupe and built a new house in Costa Rica with my fun money.

I've had two other C5s that I didn't molest much by making them faster. They also brought no sentimental value to me. Therefore they didn't do it for me enough, especially in stock form, to hold onto them.

If my decision was a stock C5 (Z06 variant or not) and no sentimental value or sweat equity I would opt for a C6 Z06 at a minimum. C6 ZR1 as my preference. The GS is nice looking but meh. Big whoop. Base model C6's were never and will never be on the table for this guy.

However, if your C5 is a stocker with no sentimental value...its basically just a car to you vs. a fickle mistress like mine has become to me after 23 yrs and multiple builds. So the decision may be much easier to make. It's not like a stock C5 is rare and you can't find your way back into one if you change your mind.

Well I think I qualify to answer this as I owned 2 C5's and I just sold a 2007 C6 and I don't want to rub anyone the wrong way, I'll take a C5 over the next generation !

Okay I'll throw a few grenades here. The C5 was completely rebuilt and not even close to a C4. So was the C7 and the C8. Am I wrong? They started from scratch. The C6, isn't that really C5.5? Ouch........ Naturally I Love my C5...

I had three C5s (‘99, ‘00 and ‘03) and really liked them all. The cars had what should be over time classic looks and still are good performers. Plus they were such an upgrade over the C4s in terms of ergonomics and fuel efficiency. Never did own a C6 but did have an opportunity to drive one for about 1500 miles - seems to be a bit better than a C5 but not all that much more that I was tempted to buy one. Perhaps the GS or Z06 would have changed my mind.

I did make the jump from my ‘03 to 2014 C7 and the difference is massive. If your budget does allow for a jump to a C7, at least test drive one and give it some consideration. Of course, that is if you even like the C7.

Yeah…the more I’m thinking about it, I do like my C5. And it’s paid for, LOL.

I think I’ll stick with it for a while longer.

Thanks to all for the replies!

always a good choice! I’ve never been tempted to go from my C5 to a c6 even after driving one. Granted I’ve never taken a C6Z for anything more than around a parking lot, so I can’t really speak for those

I hate C6 interior design vs my C5. That said I'd only dump my C5Z for a C6 GS or jump to C7 GS
