Clear evidence of a fatigue crack in the lower tooth, upper tooth failed in overload as a result. Look for a "beach" pattern ( ever expanding discolorations) to indicate a fatigue failure in the lower tooth. Probably a flaw in the lower tooth-- slight crack or stress riser where the "beach" pattern started.
Early hot rodders polished connecting rods to eliminate surface imperfections that might constitute stress risers that would precipitate a beginning crack and ultimate fatigue failure.
