am not understanding how this could happen, the ring gear looks like new, yet 4 teeth destroyed on the pinion. 3.90 ration in a rpm built diff. No track days no auto cross. c5 z06
just started with a nasty vibration and had it towed in to the shop.
Any thought on this, i m curious what the lads think

Clear evidence of a fatigue crack in the lower tooth, upper tooth failed in overload as a result. Look for a "beach" pattern ( ever expanding discolorations) to indicate a fatigue failure in the lower tooth. Probably a flaw in the lower tooth-- slight crack or stress riser where the "beach" pattern started.

Early hot rodders polished connecting rods to eliminate surface imperfections that might constitute stress risers that would precipitate a beginning crack and ultimate fatigue failure.

I agree... poor quality in manufacturing is most likely the cause.

Looks like a defective pinion gear to me.
