Default Best run-flat tire

I have really great non-run flats on my '04 roadster...............but they are aging out.

I seem to be "aging" out as well and am thinking about going back to run-flats................just for the convenience and safety factor. And yes, I also have AAA. My wife also drives the car. I don't mind losing a little "performance."

What is the best "run-flat?"

"run-flats" are still a thing?

Just search Tire Rack for tires....or call them.

No such thing!! Seriously, I think that if Goodyear still makes the OEM run flats, I'd start there. I never had trouble with mine, and they lasted a long time........

My OEM GY RF's were far from fine - noisy, and got noisier with age. Tossed mine after 20k+ miles as they had become very "loose" in the wet.. Each generation of RF's since has gotten better. Currently running Mich A/S RF's. Much better. When the time comes, I will stick with Michelin.

The best run-flat tire is no run-flat tire.
What... Me worry? 🤓

We run Michelin Pilot Sport ZP AS, have been very pleased, and will probably stay with these or similar the next time we need tires for our C5.
Do not notice any excessive tire noise some speak of and the tires’ performance is equal to or even better than my “old man skills”.
Our newest set is now almost 5 years old with about 15,000 miles and they feel like they drive as good as new.
We are both in our “later years” and not interested in the prospect of worrying about a flat tire on a busy road. (And, yes, we have USAA towing).

Michelin AS ZP is the way to go. The Goodyear have not changed and are terrible. The worst.

After watching this video the other day, I may change my mind about run flats and try them next time around.

I would seriously disagree. The OEM Goodtear runflats I had on my 1998 and later on a 2002 became became very slippery on wet or damp roads -- I started referring them to a "death wish" in wet weather. The Michelin runflats are a Huge improvement. I would recommend their All Season version -- the non All Season lose traction below 40deg F.

I don't use run flats anymore but when I did I preferred Michelin.

Strange comments about the GY, at least to me. Agree with Jack TL on noise. I'd forgotten that area. Maybe I forgot some other aspects, too, but I don't think so. However, I don't push my car in the corners on damp/wet pavement, and seldom drove in rain. I ran Michelin PS2s on the rear for years, on different wheels, and kept the RFs for long distance trips. I'll say this for Michelin; They may be pricey, but never drove a car that had Michelin tires that I didn't like. Nobody makes a better tire than Michelin. If the GY tires are about the same price as Michelin, I'd go with Michelin. My .02.....

I have had run-flats for 25 years. Over time they have gotten much better. The new Michelin is the best. Over the years the amount of excuses why you don't put them on your car are many. Your car you do as you please. In my opinion the main reason is the cost. And thats ok. Just tell the truth why you really don't like them instead of tell everyone they are terrible. The video above will tell you different.

I've been a user of the run-flats since day1. When I replaced my OE GoodYears, in 2003, I went with Michelin, and haven't strayed. What concerns me, however, is that it seems that our beloved C-5s are now heading toward "antique car status", therefore a "limited demand" status, it appears that run flats, in C-5 sizes, may be phased out. I recall browsing tires, about a year and a half ago, and Michelin's site had deleted the run flats. Then, about 6 months later, they reappeared. I could be wrong, but I think that they disappeared from Tire Rack's website, recently.......

And there's no way in hell, I'd be risking my life, sitting on the side of the road, trying to plug and re-inflate a flat tire. Furthermore, the two times I've suffered a flat tire (not with the 'Vette), it was caused by debris slicing the sidewall wide open. No amount RTV, duct tape, or plugs, was going to help..........

The problem with that is it's a several thousand $$$$ answer. New wheels AND tires. Not a cheap solution......

Agreed. But it's now appearing that we C-5 owners are going to be in rough shape, as more and more replacement parts for our cars are disappearing......or, as your suggested solution demonstrates, the "work arounds" aren't cheap.
