Default Corvettes and Kids

Its been quite a while since i've been active on the forum here, but the old vette is back under the knife. A huge thanks to the community here helping me and giving me encouragement along the way of my C5 adventure a few years ago, it only felt right to get back into the forum once i started wrenching on the vette again.

As you may have put together by the title of this thread, I got myself a build slot on a tiny human. My daughter is due to be delivered early march.

Now the real reason the vette is getting some love is that late last season one of my OEM motor mounts starts puking oil. Ive got some hinson mounts on the way and plan to do some heat shielding to ensure they last at least a little while. However i realized that the vette, when the windows are closed, is quite loud. I do 99% of my driving with windows down so it's never bothered me. Mostly its road and drivetrain nose. However, i plan to have my daughter in the vette with me as early as its safe to do so, so some sound deadening is now on the to do list. Any suggestions would be helpful. (materials used, where to focus etc.) On top of that my 2000 FRC is before the airbag shut off switch was included. I'm going to need a good way to enable and disable the passenger airbag for sure.

Other than that any tips from dads on safely giving younger kids rides in C5s would be super helpful. Car seats that work well, or dont. I may be looking to put new seats in the vette all together, so input there would be welcome. Or if theres anything else i'm overlooking.

Anyone who's interested in the build journey a few years ago, here are links to the build and tuning threads.

I've had mine along before in the car seats, but the factory ti mufflers are anything but obnoxious. You'll either be doing a new cat back or maybe getting by with one of those sound deadener pillows that cut off the trunk area from the front (or is that FRC only?). As for the airbag disable, well, my 04 has it. Can't speak to adding that to a car that didn't have it. Maybe all the airbag brains change over? Or maybe if you do that it doesn't talk to the BCM? Not sure.

Supercharged111, I do have one of those sound deadener pillows that i completely forgot about. Im also thinking some sort of dynamat at least on some of the large flat drum-like surfaces and the fire wall. The PS4S tires i'm running are awesome, but pick up every single piece or road debris and throw it at the wheel well.

I'm honestly not apposed to semi-permanently disabling the passenger airbag. My dog probably gets the most seat time there and i'm guessing soon to be followed by my kid.

My boys are 9 and 12 years old. My 9 year old loves cars, but I think the noise still scares him. Mines loud with LG headers, cats, xpipe, and B&B bullet exhaust. My 12 year old still hates cars. Whatever, I leave my boys home with my wife, I go get some coffee and meet the guys up for cars and coffee. Nobody is ruining my fun. Leave the house and drop the hammer FTW.

sometimes my wife follows with the kids in her Honda accord. 😳

I do. Funny thing, when I got the car it was laying down flat. It fits perfectly that way too so figured it was some aesthetic thing. One day I proposed it up in the opening and saw that it filled it completely. It doesn't make a huge difference, so not sure much it can do for loud mufflers. The dynamat stuff is more for resonance than outright noise I think, but there are 2 different kinds as well. For the airbags, you may just get by with something that disables both airbags.
