Will a Blackwing off of a 2004 z06 fit on my 2001 conv. ? Thanks, Jerry
Yes, it is a direct fit/ the same one for 01-04 C5's. The hole for the air pump hose is cutout which you'll use the grommet and fitting from your factory intake and you'll be good to go.
Just note that a Blackwing, just like any other aftermarket intake won't net much if any power gains over stock without additional mods and a tune. They are more of a gateway mod with no real seat of the pants power improvements on their own.
I really hope Blackwing is a TRUE CAI, not some 'hot air intake'.
Look into the Vararam - true cold air induction, cheap somewhat albeit.
Open your fog light housing ducts with a dremmel for the Blackwing or replace the closed ducts with vented ones. The Vararam replaces the closed ducts with the snorkles.
I've run both the Blackwing and the Vararam (both on a shelf in my garage right now since going FI). The car dynoed less with the Vararam but the car felt snappier at WOT at higher speeds. But that was likely a tad reality mixed with more placebo effect. However, Vararam has proven to improve 1320 time and trap speeds. My brother for one bestted his consistent times and mph by 3mph after installing the Vararam.

Nice. Yes, that ram air effect - bound to increases capacities of motor. Me likely.
However just to further the instantiation - the main purpose of true induction system is preventing your computer from pulling timing with hot air ingestion (the major problem with most car intakes).

And that's why it's always your best best to have the car tuned when making upgrades that impact airflow. So best to do headers at the same time. Or better yet, heads, intake and headers....maybe the cam while you're at it. Tune once pay once.
Opening the fog light housing is cheap, less than 30 minutes and let's cooler air in either direction you go. Put some Z06 style alumunim mesh fog light housing screens on and good to go.

Anything and everything is better than the stock air box. They are very restrictive. Every article that was written before and during the release of the C5 was highly critical of how restrictive the stock box is. And recommended replacement. The first thing I did when I got my car was replace it with this filter. In early 98 there wasn’t much available.

Ah yeah, tuning, this is another story...no performance modifications will be good with no tuning to compensate for airflow difference. Best to join modifications with tuning!
And um, not sure what you are referring to with the foglight modification. That is not going to quell hot air ingestion from a stop ?

Ah yes, perhaps you refer intrinsically to the famous 'Zip Tie Mod', where the stock airbox will be improved with an increase in airflow with no modifications necessary other than a zip tie. Nice.

I also found that the computer adjusted to the change with no problem. After I continued to make changes I did have a tune added.

Hmmm interesting. I have heard that the computer does do compensating, for minor changes to the car...actually one Corvette Specialist told me this. Steve Moore Chevy down near Charlotte, NC.

You're talking performance upgrades but worried about "hot air at a stop"? NO intake is going to change that.
The fog light mod is taking a dremmel to the closed off housing inside the duct that surrounds each foglight and fills the hole where it can be a perfectly good vent on both sides. Just like the Z06.

The computer adjusted for a dual cone because nothing changed with that intake. The dual cone is the worst aftermarket intake you could have purchased. Negligible compared to stock. Given it was 1998 when you did that your options were likely that or nothing. Nothing would have been cheaper with the same result other than aesthetics.

That's false, it's basic fluid dynamics. Look into it.
As for the 'fog light mod', you must be joking.
Okay pal. You go hunt down that CAI that improves your at a stop performance. Sounds brilliant.
The Z06 has the fog light housing cutout. The coupe, FRC and vert have it blocked off. If looking to get cooler air into the engine bay what's the point of keeping them blocked off? Especially if you can open it up and let fresh air in for free? Go buy the $200 housings with the hole in the middle instead. That makes more sense.

Hard to believe that a sealed box will allow as much air than a duel con sitting in the same place in the engine bay.
The difference in CFMs (OEM vs twin cone) is negligible and even with a free flowing exhaust (long tubes, no cats, axle back) the increase in performance gained when adding most CAI's especially in otherwise stock engines is not noticable. Even less so with stock TB untuned.
Most tuners will even advise against a twin cone due to turbulence that can be troubling to tune out (MAF without screens likely impacted worse). Sometimes like in your case the twin cone didnt throw a code because it barely leaned out the factory rich tune. Which = no real change/ improvement over what was already there. The factory tolerances are not that broad. So the computer was easily able to compensate because the change was negligible.
I will say the one you have (Volant?) does look sweet. It probably sounds cool too when sucking air in on throttle blips.
But if you want one that decreases outside temps and has proven track performance the Vararam does this. Halltech is also one that meets some of its hype and performance mprovement claims.
On the "C5 quick list" and "Z06 Fast List" on this forum yiull see the large majority of top 20 in both lists running the Vararam. There's a reason for this and it's definitely not build quality or aesthetics.
