I just did the transmission on my 2002. I took the pan off and checked it out and was amazed to see hardly anything in the pan. There was a little bit around the magnet, but the bottom of the pan was clean. The fluid looked great. I put in the new filter and installed the pan and put in the fluid and am very pleased. My little car doesn't get run hard at all and from the looks of things never has. I have had it over 10 years. I drained the rear end and refilled it at the same time. It had a total brake rebuild by a dealership in 2012 and I replaced the brake fluid in 2017. I am going to put new tires on it next month and while it is suspended in the air, I am going to replace the brake pads and the brake fluid. It should be ready to go. I did the anti-freeze and hoses and belts last year. I imagine something stupid like the heater core will puke out and make a mess.
As far as some little things to look at, I think a new fuel filter might be in line. It looks harder than it is. I just changed mine. I don't drive this Corvette much, but I really don't like the thought of walking home over something I overlooked. Good luck with yours.
VettemanJack, I agree with you. I spent 40 years working in Plant Operations. A really good PM program is a must. My primary reason to raise my car this winter was to put in a new fuel pump. I think 20 years of a little motor spinning is enough to ask. I hope this new one was a good as the original one. If I had it to do over, I would have dropped the tank. My vocabulary during the event was X rated.
If you do not have a maintenance history on the car, changing the brake fluid and coolant would be two things to definitely do. Checking all hoses and belts would be another, along with filters.
When I bought my last C5 (used), I had all the fluids changed out just to have a good baseline for a maintenance program.
Yes. This is definitely what I am doing. I figured it can't be a bad idea, I do like to daily it in the summer time, at least 4/7 days of the week. Would make me feel better too.
And for reference for everyone- I would prefer to pay a shop to do these things.
Ok Cool, sounds good. He will easily see lines as rubber or stainless. I'm having stainless installed, for the stiffen. Not as expensive, you have to bleed anyways!
