On the weekend the wife and I drove our Vette to Vancouver to do a deal on another car.. We ended up doing a deal on a 2006 SL500 for a straight trade with our Vette. I think the sales guy wanted it for himself. The SL drove great it did have a problem with the exhaust. The previous owner removed the mufflers and ran a straight pipe. It's way too loud. I've ordered replacements from ebay and should be here end of the month. My wife loves it we can get in and out bette and with the hardtop in place the weather doesn't matter.. uUring the winter we hardly drove the vette and needed a 3rd car. Now we can go down to 2 cars. Our SL is black with red leather interior and working back massagers
I've enjoyed coming to this forum for information. It's well run.I probably won't be coming here often so I guess it's goodbye.

Never say Goodbye........I did the same thing when I traded i my 2015 vette a year and a half ago. Came on here and said MY goodbye..................fast forward to this past december and I am back in the fold. You can no more trade in the love of the Corvette than you can for a child....................... So for now lets just say solong
I left the fold back in early 2021 for the 4th time. I ended up with a fantastic 2004 Jaguar XKR Convertible. It wasn't long before I was back reading the forum and looking at my favorite color combinations, white with Torch Red Interior. I found one in Florida, a 2002 Targa late last summer and back in the groove, These cars have a strong draw...Unfortunately it's developed a bad harmonic balancer so looking at $1,000 coming up, right after the auto shifter cable fell off in reverse, at the Dr's office, tow, repair...The prices we pay... Crazy??? LOL

I feel your pain. When the cable connector on my C6 broke I was in park and facing a curb. Flatbed couldn't get under the rear so we ended up with this.

Now I pull forward to exit parking in D, when ever possible. At least if it falls off again I'll be in drive and can skip the tow. Lol.
Age is probably what is going to get me. Not years per se, but getting out of the C5 with the top on requires maneuvering as the legs (esp. the knees) don't flex like they used to. Ditto for my wife, which is why we mostly use the Genesis these days. When I drove a neighbor's C8, I really thought I was going to have to ask him to help me out of it - the sills being wider, and the cockpit more cramped than the C5.
One of the grandsons will probably take the C5 over, but I am loathe to let it go, as I will have had it for 26 years this year having bought it new in 1997. Close to stock and no accidents.
Phooey!... Little guys can just wait!... Don't leave the Corvette till you've croak'd!.. It'll happen!.. I mean the croak part.. Might as well hang on to your presious Vette till the end...I'm gonna. 😤
PS.. Been there, went with BMW... What a huge mistake.🤕
I will *NEVER* buy another Mercedes in my life unless I can afford to purchase it new and likewise sell/burn the car the moment that warranty ends.
Was the car amazing? It absolutely was. Is it easy to work on? Not impossible, some things are easy, others are frustrating.... so, average.
Here is the catch. If you need a part you must show proof of ownership. EVERY. TIME. YOU. GO. A recent example is that the ignition switch module went. Buying new from Benz is $630. The car doesn't run without this part so you need to go down and bring a copy of your title showing that, yes, you own the car. In this case it makes sense because what if someone bought ignitions with intent of theft right? But the same procedure exists for any/all parts. Ok... so $630... insane but hey that's MB.... but they proceed to tell me that I cannot install it and that they MUST (as in will not allow any other option) install it themselves at their dealership labor rate of nearly $200/hr and the job can take 1 to 2 hours to install and then program the ignition switch and key(s). AND, inherent to this, I must of course pay to have the giant car flat-bedded to the shop which is another $200.
OR......I can have the switch serviced via E-Bay for $300.
$300 for an ignition switch is bad enough, right? But the stealer wanted to burn my for nearly $1300.
Heck no. Nope. Their frustrating identity policy combined with their unwillingness to allow me to service my own vehicle using a knock-off STAR programmer just got way too deep under my skin and I fully hate Mercedes-Benz now.
Wonderful car when it runs. A truly great experience to have in life. But this back side reality is not worth it.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
