I'd say you are good. I'm a believer in catch cans but only if the engine is fresh.

Excellent post! I have a 2000 with an LS7. I vent to atmosphere, no catch can. At nearly 100 thousand miles, it's a bit late. OP will be fine without one. From my research, they mostly help keep excess oil out of the heads with high rpm engines.

My go to ex GM schooled mechanic said this when I asked him about getting a 'can' for my C5 with 40K at the tijme, "Not needed, waste of money".

Its not needed, but if you install a new intake and want to keep it clean, it will help.
That is what I did, and it pulls enough oil to make me glad that I did install it.

Good luck

If you're looking for some useful info check out Media | mmsolutions (mightymousesolutions.com)
One might suspect this is biased info however it's interesting non the less. I've had one for years, it definitely works. I did have a minor issue with it initially due to how I installed it but received excellent support and solved the problem.

Not my C5 but my Jeep. With almost 200,000 on the clock it has a bit more blowby then new. I empty the catch can every tank full getting about 2 tbsp's of oil every time, a bit more if doing a lot of highway driving. After seeing how nasty the inside of my intake was when replacing the knock sensors it is something I will do to my C5 as well. Oil in the air/fuel mixture fouls up things and lowers the octane as well, something I learned the hard way working Grand National Buicks in the day. Anyone who has experienced detonation or pre ignition under high boost knows what happens next.

On a stock motor there is no need. I have one, but only because I have a supercharger. They do work. However, the car was designed to run without one. They don't do enough on a stock motor to be worth the expense.

My 2 cents: I just changed my oil pressure sensor. When I got the manifold off I was surprised how much oil found its way into the intake manifold and the front two runners on the heads. I cleaned it all up and I am going to put a catch can on it to prevent it from happening again. It's a 2002 that runs strong at about 84,000 miles. I don't think I have any motor issues...

I installed one on both my ‘00 and ‘03 Corvettes and the can did catch some oily vapor that would have normally gone into the manifold. II was glad I put one on my car.
