Default Repo wheels

I am bringing back a car that have been stored for 15 years. It is at Vette Nuts and it ran today for the first time in at least 13 years.

Obviously it needs tires. I was going to take this as an opportunities to modernize and ditch the polished thin spokes.

Was thinking of going black wheels as the car is MY. My other C5 is Quick Silver and I might do black wheels on it too.

There is O.E wheels, Florida speed shop, factory reproductions or the OEM rear ZO6's that house of speed has.

Been out of the C5 game along time but I have 2 cars with less than 30K miles combined. I am going to start driving them more.

What's your advice on wheels and where to source?

Thanks

got mine from Bob at House of Wheels.

he's a good guy but he's also old school and you have to call him on the phone to order.

Are you open to other colors other than pure black? There are some great options out there or you could go the powder coated path for the existing wheels. For both cars.

I dealt with OE wheels. Their wheels have been on my car for at least 15 years. Obvious not black, but still a quality wheel.

Please not black. Please not black. Please, not black...

Dark grey metallics are a grown up alternative. Or go bronze

I've certainly heard some good things about house of wheels as well (although their wheels tend to be heavy). However, I like the factory thin spokes. They are your cars, so go with whatever you like best. However, since you asked for advice, I kind of agree with Elekto. Black rims are sort of played out. Black mutes the lines of the rim, and just creates a sort of visual void where the wheels should be. It might look ok with the millenium yellow, but I think it would be a big mistake with the quick silver. Just my $0.02.

PLEASE NOT BLACK.Especially on an MY car. I had them on my C6 and them along with the black convertible top looked hideous. My Velocity yellow C7 had chrome and my current C5 does as well...............I know it's in the eye of the beholder but with yellow? Don't do black.

I think I am going to focus on hunting down some C5Z OEM wheels and refinishing in a gunmetal color. They have become hard to find. I had several sets back in the day.

I agree with the NOT BLACK sentiment. I have a 2K in Magnetic Red Metallic with silver painted thin spokes which will be soon be repainted in a dark gunmetal or graphite color. I like to see a contrast between the actual tire and the wheel.

I had z06 repo wheels from OE wheels. I’m not complaining about the quality. Tire sizes are becoming scarce. I sold my OE wheels for more then what I paid for them back in 2010, thanks to inflation. I bought wheels and tires from tire rack.
Front 18 x 9.5 275 35 tire. Offset 50
rear 19x 10.5 305 30 tire. Offset 54 or 55

they fit fine. Rears stick out like 1/8 inch. No rubbing on stock height.

I agree with skipping the black wheels and go with something like a charcoal or if you still want black, think about a machine faced wheel. I have had good luck with Factory Reproduction wheels.

WB to the C5 side of things, BTW
+1 on Bob@HOW. Bought a set of 18×10.5 repop thinspokes. Still using them 18 years later. Wanted a sleeper look, but wider rear tires.

Grinder? Did you try a drag radial yet? Mickey Thompson makes a 305 35 18 that would fit that wheel.
