Default MGW shifter question (not the flat shifter version)

Hey everyone. Quick question. I just installed a MGW shifter, Not the flat shifter version, and It’s very tough to push over the reverse. Is that how it’s supposed to feel. Also it’s tight in neutral side to side. It feels great going into gears. I just want to make sure I didn’t do something wrong. I followed the directions to the tie. It’s the most recent version of the shifter.

Thanks

There's a safety interlock to prevent accidentally shifting into reverse at speed. Power off and safety set. Try ignition on and see if that makes a difference.

Well that was it. Lol. That was all on me. I installed it but didn’t take it for a ride because of bad weather. So that was easy. Hahaha. Thank you.

I went through the same ”issue” after I installed mine.

Emailed MGW. Was told exactly that. Felt dumb. 😂

With any short shifter you give up a lot of leverage so it will be a little harder to get into reverse. AFTER you drive the car around a while, if it still bothers you I have a softer spring for the lockout solenoid you can order or if you would like you can send your whole reverse lockout solenoid in and I will take it apart, polish it up, (that just cleans it up and makes sure it's smooth on the end as sometimes they are a little worn) and reassemble it with the softer spring. This just makes it easier to get into reverse, it will no allow you to get into reverse on accident as that is what the solenoid does. Anytime over 15 MPH I believe you are locked out of reverse.

Anytime you make an adjustment to the shifter \ box I recommend moving the car forward \ backwards ten feet or so to prevent the issue you were having.
