Speaker options
thanks to all.

get some quality components for the doors that are powered by their own amp. get a sub (or subs) for the hatch/trunk in a box with its own amp. no need to run rear speakers although some folks still choose to leave them in there. (not me) there's lots of options to choose for many budgets.
i find it to be very satisfying to have clear and powerful sound behind my music.

ditch the "sub woofer" in the door (which is about the size and weight of a small paper plate) and the tiny little amps, and drop in a metra adapter -- they're all over amazon-- let's you put in your choice of a 6" speaker + 2.5". Many people do this.
IF you want to go nuts, I tried 6" subwoofers in the doors initially (REAL subwoffers), but was missing a lot of frequency coverage in the mid range. Since then, I've replaced them with woofers. Morel hybrid mw6 MKII Morel Hybrid MW6 MKII Hybrid Series 6-1/2" woofers at Crutchfield and
audiofrog gs25 Audiofrog GS25 GS Series 2-1/2" midrange car speakers at Crutchfield in the doors using the metra mount. The frequency response on these speakers is incredible, the range is superb.
But frankly you don't need to spend anywhere near what I did to get better sound -- the stock speakers are such ****, any decent speaker is going to be an improvement . just get a set of reasonably 6.5's and 2.5's and you'll be fine. Add a subwoffer in the cargo area, you're great. My advice-- go on crutchfield, use their chat feature, get some recommendations on 6.5" and 2.5/3.5", and pick a set, and then shop around (amazon is usually cheaper than crutchfield). If you do not have an amp, you'll want as efficient a speaker as possible (which you typically do anyway).
HEre's a thread I started a while back on this, lots of good ideas (and a TON of threads on this by the way): recently replaced entire audio -- what speakers did you put in your doors? - CorvetteForum - Chevrolet Corvette Forum Discussion
For the rear-- I think I have hertz, but frankly, they do pretty much nothing.

get rid of EVERYTHING audio in your doors-- crappy tweeters, "woofer" and the deck-of-cards sized amps, and grab a pair of these:
you can fit a 6.5" and easily a 3.5" speaker in that mount (maybe even a little bigger). Bolts right in, no drilling/cutting required.

Or am I just wasting my time and money with 6.5 inch subs?
Right now I mainly listen to podcasts on my phone (upside down in the cup holder)
