Hey guys recently picked up a built 99 coupe. 718whp 709tq. It has long tube headers, catless x pipe, and a catback with very small bullet type mufflers (not sure on brand yet). But it is incredibly LOUD! Way too loud for my taste. From my searching it looks like magnaflow might be the best option to quiet this thing down. Will a magnaflow catback kill noticeable power or will it be minor?
Any other suggestions for a nice mellow catback? Looking for little to no drone. I'll start with the catback and if it's still not enough, look into high flow cats. Thanks for any suggestions!
I actually read about that when i was searching. But saw where some said they lost a decent amount of power. Do you feel that would be the case, or possibly something else was going in with their cars? How is the drone with the z06 ti? Thanks for the suggestion
The Mildest IMO even over the Ti would be the Magnaflow. Most people that have bought that exhaust literally hate it because they were looking for more.

No real power loss. There are plenty of YT video with Z06 on the dyno.
No drone either, the system with headers, x pipe are quiet at idle and sound very good under acceleration. If you want louder (with no drone) do a bypass.
Thanks for the awesome suggestions guys. I am happy to be a part of this group. You guys have been extremely helpful with every question I've had thus far. I'm so glad I found this form. I'm old school and I truly appreciate the forums so much more than what Facebook has turned into. There's not many left like this anymore and they truly are a great asset. The Magnaflow seems to be at the top of the list from all the research I've done as far as being quiet. And now thanks to you guys the Z06 is something I definitely will look heavily on.
that's how my car is right now. It is ear piercingly loud. I thought maybe it was because I'm almost 50 but my wife who is younger said this thing is insane
I think I'm going to try to figure out which model I have now and see if someone in my area would possibly want to trade. Or sell the one I have and buy the magnaflow or zo6. Thanks again for everything

Post up some pictures of it. There are only so many mufflers for these cars. One of us will know for sure what it is.
Also, last year I tried the Ti exhaust on my car for about 4 months. The sound level wasn't bad at our power level but honestly I didn't like the tone at all. It also had a little bit of a boomy sound in the hatch area on my car. I don't know if I would fully call it drone but whatever it was I didn't care for it. Wasn't long after my son persuaded me to put the Corsas back on the car lol.
Finding a good set of Ti mufflers without shipping them can be a PITA as well. Some people will happen upon a set a day after looking an others have been looking for a set for years and still don't have them.
Another thing, putting Ti mufflers on the car requires a lift and or some seriously sketchy jacking and blocking up of the car to get it high enough to install them. Just some more things to ponder.
Here are a few pics of what's on the car now. It looks like a quality stainless setup, welds look very nice, just too loud with the rest of my setup. Hopefully one of you guys can identify it for me. Thanks again for all the help!

After listening to many sound clips I think I understand what you are talking about. I think the best one for me will be the magnaflow. With my long tubes and catless xpipe i think it will be just what im looking for.

That looks just like a set of straight pipes with no muffling at all...no wonder it's so loud

In the first pic you can see some small bullet type mufflers, but they cant do very much. Ive read that some people love this setup if they still have cats and stock manufolds and only run the catback. But for me, too loud! Guess im getting old lol
z06 ti
my car is super charged w/ headers, and z06 ti. Sounds insane.
@JMG2 Are you planning to get to any of the Connecticut shows coming up? I'd be curious to hear that in person. I have loved my Borlas for two decades and three different sets, but I know exactly how the new car is going to sound soon and, well, for fun there are always cut-outs and for the rest of the time I want to hear myself thinking on occasion.
My buddy is maybe about to pick up an FRC with LG pipes and SLP tips. His wife is an audiologist so I know for darned sure he won't be keeping those SLPs for long!

I might -- we're in the process of finishing building our shore house/selling the house we're in, I may not make it to too many shows this year (and I actually usually bring my '67 when I do go). But if you want to hear it, happy to try and schedule something and meet somewhere.
