On my new to me '04 Vert (2 weeks now), found that the hazard switch will not stay in the ON position, have to hold it in to get it to work, turn signals work fine. In searching I see that most have replaced the hazard switch due to the turn signals intermittent operation, did not find any posting where the switch does not latch ON.
Just wondering if there is a non-replacement "fix" for this that I have missed.
Although I have removed the dash pad in my previous '04, not something I am going to do just to replace the hazard switch...will wait until one of the HVAC actuators fails.
You don't need to remove the dash pad but it would certainly help. If you remove all the dash pad bolts you'll be able to lift the pad several inches to give it enough clearance to get to the hazard switch from behind. That's how I did mine the second time when I changed the hazard button from red to shale.
The first time I just jammed it with a socket extension, popped it out the back and reached up from under the knee bolster...broke the old one but didn't want to break the new one
Congrats on the new to you "04. Hazard switch issues are common on these cars. However, as you mentioned it is usually an issue with the turn signals that makes people replace it. I'm not sure how you would fix your issue without replacement though. Good luck!
From the replies above seems that the hazard switch failing to lock ON is not common, but will require replacement. I like the idea of just lifting the dash pad enough to get my hand in there to get to the switch.
Route99...your suggestion is something I never thought of or have seen. Is a leather dash pad something you have done? If so, pictures and details please.
I assume the GM hazard switch is the one to get?..or are there aftermarket ones that are better?
Thanks for the replies....sure is nice to be have a C5 again!!
