IDK about the rest of the members, but these guys repeatedly rejoining after being banned for scamming or spamming....they're starting to **** me off!!! A lot! They take up valuable time, and thanks to our mods and administrators, they haven't taken up a lot of our money......yet. Though I did read a post somewhere recently that some poor member lost ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!! This could be posted across all the generations of Corvettes, because we're all losing time and effort to these scumbags. I wish I had a solution. Peoples morals today suck for the most part. I'll bet the majority of these guys are young wannabes.
They're everywhere and it's just getting worse by the day. Facebook is overrun with them, they've been on Craigslist for a long time, and they're getting more clever by the day on forums like this. That was me that posted about the $1,000 one a few weeks ago, but trust me, they're getting away with larger amounts from countless people, daily. It's extremely frustrating and even more frustrating that there seems to be no practical solution for it.
The solution is not convenient because it limits your audience and may make selling less effective. But from my prospective face to face transactions are a must with unknown people and sums of money that would cause discomfort if lost.

Yes, scammers are appearing more and more frequently here on the forum. It does take up a lot of time just trying to keep up. However, there are a number of threads, including stickies in the FS sections, dedicated to providing helpful tips on ways to avoid being a victim. Plus using good old common sense when it comes to conducting financial transactions can help.
Pay for items using a method that offers buyers protection (like PayPal Goods and Services) or a credit card when possible. Or even better, if possible pay cash in person (I know it is not always possible to do that).
Keep reporting suspected scammers - your input helps us eliminate those criminals that want to separate you from your hard earned money
I'm an admin on a Corvette for sale page on FB. The number of so called businesses that try and get onto the page are amazing. It's probably 20% of new people wanting on the page are them at times. All you have to do is read the profile to tell it's not real. There was a point about 6 months back where the FB algorithm was just approving them. man did that cause a lot of trouble.

Good advice, Jack. Here's one of many sticky threads on the topic. Follow the suggestions, use good judgment and you should be fine. One of the scammer techniques we are seeing lately: A community member offers something for sale. Another expresses interest. Then, the scammer contacts the interested party telling them where to send the money hoping the interested party won't notice it's not the seller who has contacted them. So, they send the money complain that the selling party is the scammer.
Don't let that be you. Don't post your personal contact information online. Don't buy something that is being offered by a user who just registered within the last few days and has no track record of transactions. Don't jump on a deal that is too good to be true thinking the seller has ignorantly underpriced his sale item and you need to send money before somebody else snatches up the bargain.
The scammers have proliferated because because many of them are outside the jurisdiction of law enforcement. That and there are so many of them that the FBI is innundated with complaints on relatively small losses. The scammers know the feds won't pursue them, so they continue their efforts. You are the first line of defense. If you see something suspicions, report it.
Scamming has gotten so bad now even we orders from reliable vendors are being compromised. I know that most have full time staffs just doing nothing but confirming addresses and CC info to make sure it is a legit order. They are doing it for the protection of the company and customer both.
If you ever get an order delayed do to a verifications hold please do not get mad as it is to protect everyone.
Yes it is really that bad anymore. The dumb crooks order $5k in parts and Next Day Air but the smart ones order low amounts and move around and are difficult to catch.
