[Z06] 01 radio question
I got a factory radio to go back in it,and to my surprise the factory harness/and plugs were still intact.
I plugged in the factory radio and everything works but the volume is not going up or down,it is stuck in one position-the SCV seems to work a bit...also the security light does not flash.
I did disconnect the battery for five min.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Dom
the OEM radio doesn't work with aftermarket amps that will have to be removed if you're going back to stock.
Also -- now that I think about it, the far more likely culprit here is that the previous owner likely installed a interface unit between the aftermarket head unit and the stock amps which will have to be removed.
The oem head unit uses a dsp that interfaces between it and the amps/speakers. The DSP interfaces with the stock amps which, in addition to being super low quality and shitty, are also proprietary. so you can't just hook up the shitty stock amps to an after market head unit.
When putting in a DD aftermarket head unit, and keeping the shitty stock speakers and shitty stock amps, the easiest thing to do (and pretty much what everyone does) is to get an interface that allows the after market head unit to work with the shitty stock speakers
Look for a box behind the head unit that says something like "PAC-OEMVERT" or "PAC-OEM1" something like that. it's rectangular, maybe 2 inches by 5 inches by an inch thick. You'll need to take that out.
MAy I ask why you're going back to stock? the stock head unit is really, really crappy. If you already have a decent aftermarket unit (assuming it's decent) why not keep it?
edit-- the interface will look something like this:
PAC ROEM-NIS2 Wiring Interface Connect a new car stereo and retain the Bose amplifier in select 1994-2012 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles at Crutchfield
I've never gone from aftermarket back to stock, but I can't imagine that interface with a stock radio, and not being able to adjust volume sounds pretty much exactly like one of the issues you'd expect to see.

It was a cheap ebay big screen unit hanging off the dash-looked out of place-I've loved these cars in the factory form since they came out...

Well, may want to consider at least switching the headunit -- an alpine ilx650 is really an amazing head unit, super slim, and has tons of features, it's one of the more popular head units out there.
If it's still the stock bezel though, you'll need to buy a new one with the proper sized opening.
