Default Hood Seal Necessary?

Just put Blackwing on my '02 Z.After doing so,I read various posts here about
the necessity for a hood seal to keep water off the filter.Ordered one and when I went to install it ,I found that there was already a factory installed seal.Am I missing something or just being stupid?

:withstupid: :withstupid: :jester :jester Just kidding, I couldn't resist. I personally don't think the hood seal is necessary. I also don't think they come from the factory that way.....Maybe a dealer installed option.....

I've never seen a factory hood seal. That's interesting.

Buy an aftermarket one for around $10. Keeps the BW dry in rain and when washing. Also it keeps under the hood cleaner. Cheap insurance.

It is a waste of money. Water in the Blackwing is likely to come frome the road, not the hood. My has worked fine for 19,000 miles without such a seal.

The hood seal that I think you are talking about. This is not a factory item. The after market seal installs right in front of the hood on the back side of the front bumper. If you have a Mid America C5 catalog you can see a great picture of this on page 5-24.

This is a great item. It is inexspensive. What it does is seals the body line from the hood to the bumper. This is very important if you have an aftermarket intake. The tiniest crack letting air through there will cause a turbulence of air under the hood. This will cause two things. One dirt and grime will start to buil up under the hood. Secondly, this will affect air flow into your aftermarket intake. In the end, that little seal could be saving a few lost horses. Hope this helps!

Poolplayer,I guess I'm just dense. There is already a rubber seal which was on the car from the gitgo. It's not as nice looking as the aftermarket one,but it
appears adequate. It is fastened to the back of the front bumper in front of the hood.Could this be something that was only included on Z06s?
