Good afternoon. I am a new member. Have owned a number of sports cars over the years but have always wanted a Corvette. I have been searching for a C5 or C6 coupe but so far nothing yet. I started my search for a C6 because of the reputation of the 6.2 and the upgraded interior. However, I am a sucker for the vintage look of the C5 just struggle a little with the interior. While not as bad as some seem to think. I would in any event install a Navigation system and probably back up camera. I read a lot about new seats but little else.
I have tried to search the forum for ideas, maybe I am not selecting the correct search parameters but am not finding much. Any insight into quality interior upgrades would be appreciated. Thanks.
Lots of ways to freshen up a C5 interior. Just doing something as simple as a new stereo and seats as others have shown here. To me, everything inside looks good except for the stereo / AC center console. That part definitely looks dated. Of course new seats always look good but the stock C5 seats I think are pretty comfy.
Also I get what you are saying about C5 vs C6. I went C5 because of the pop-up headlights. To me the C5 is the best all-around Corvette. You got the pop-up headlights (its crazy how many people compliment me on having a car with pop-ups), one of the easier Corvettes to get in and out of. It's actually pretty roomy on the inside. Under the hood is easy to work on and components are not really dated, hard to find or filled with too many electronics and its' got good power. Definitely not the fastest car out there but looks way cooler than a lot of newer cars out there today that would beat it in a drag. Besides, I didn't buy mine to street race people
I would say the worst thing about C5's is the interior. But man for the price you can't beat these cars. Too fun to drive and enjoy.
Anyways, just my thoughts. Good luck and whatever you decide for your Corvette, if you get one, you will love it!

One of the reasons it took me so long to finally buy a C5 a few days ago is that my wife wanted a newer car with newer gadgets (she had and has a hard time wrapping her head around buying a 20-year-old car). But for the reasons you stated above I could not get away from the fact that I find the C5 significantly better looking than the models that have followed it. Aside from the tail, the curves and lines of the C5 are understated and elegant, in my opinion, and will always look classy. And I've grown to like the rear of the car over time... The stereo will be OK for a bit; I've plenty of CDs I've not played in a while, which will give me time to consider next steps.
The power and the handling are also well-matched, making it a delight to drive. It's a terrific package of comfort and performance in a beautiful automobile. I'm just glad I finally have one.
I have a Carravagio interior Black with Red stitching. Doors, Dash, Knee Bolsters and double din radio from Kenwood. Seats from Al Knoch. Looks like a completely different car. Go for the remake!

I must be in the minority because the interior of my 2000 ragtop is just fine to me. I like the contrast of the door panels (black on top, silver on bottom), the dash layout with those beautiful analog gauges and the easily understood radio, HVAC controls. Nothing squeaks or rattles. The only repair I had to do was when the passenger side vanity mirror came off, so I just ordered LED replacements from C&S Corvette.
It's not a Cadillac and wasn't meant to be. About the only laughable component IMHO is the cup holder. But who uses a cup on a six speed anyway?
I like the C5 interior just fine. And the rest of the car is totally fantastic, as we all know.

No you are are not the only one. While there are things I think about I expect to keep my interior stock. There is not one damn thing wrong with my interior and it is still in like new shape. Everything works the materials are all still good and the seat leather is not even cracked or creased.
I replaced the Visors and the seat bushings and we are all good.
I also have no cracks, pops and rattles at all in this car and that is impressive considering the amount of plastic involved.
I saw a car like mine the other day and the interior looked like someone threw up Crayola's all over it. While come mods are good some folks need to know when to stop.
I modified my Pontiac in several ways. I put leather on the seats but in factory colors. Added a glove box that is made to match the dash. The radio is from a later trans am so it matches the dash red lights. The gauges are stock appearing but changed a diode and capacitor to reprogram the tach and speedo for higher speeds. The graphic artist even put last name on the gauges like how Smiths put their name on theirs. He had a cool idea.
Even the lead engineer from the Fiero program approved of my changes.
