Default TPMS Sensors

Have 2 tire pressure monitor sensors that are bad.

AC/Delco $49 each x 2 over $100. Seeing non OEM sensors all 4 for $30 to $50 range. Spend half as much and have 2 left over when the others crap out?

Are the after market ones a gamble? Hate to brake down tires and balance for sensors that are junk. Some say "programable" is that different from doing the magnet sink?

Thanks to all- Gman in San Diego

Some use a magnet some use a tool depending on brand. If you have an 01-04 car you can turn that option off.
If it was my car i would go with the ACdelco sensors

When I bought my 2000 a few years ago it needed new sensors. I went with the Schrader sensors from Rockauto. Part #29178. I programmed them in less than a minute with a magnet. Never had a problem since.

You just have to make sure your new sensors broadcast on the frequency your receiver is programmed for.

This member says they have sensors available, try sending them a PM:

I have new universal sensors on hand that are 100% compatible, though require a $10 TPMS trigger tool. $130 for four. PM me if interested.

Idk if sitting on the shelf for years makes a whole lot of difference, or not. Logic tells me it should. But my own experiences tell me it doesn't. Reason being my 2000 C5 either has the best TPMS sensors GM ever made, or I got very lucky, because they are all original@23 years old. BUT-My 2000 was off the road from 2006 until 2014, partially due to an issue nobody could diagnose, until I found it. After finding, and repairing the problem, I found that my sensors were still fine. Keep in mind the C5 sensors transmit nothing while parked, so there's no electrical draw, except the tiniest imaginable to keep them programmed to the car.

One of my sensors is not showing any pressure. Or even the xxx. Just blank. Can anyone confirm if that means the sensor battery is dead or maybe just needs to be re-learned ? Thx for any info

I had a blank one so tried re-learning them. Now I have the XXX for that wheel. Time for new ones.

Since I sold Schrader at the time, I figured I'd try them. I think 10 years old, and going strong.

Based on past posts OP's C5 is a 2002.
These are the sensors I put in my 2001 (which will work in 2002 models as well) last year :

These are triggered with a tool instead of a magnet; this is the tool I bought for that:

As others have mentioned, it is important that you get the correct sensors for your model year. The newer (and better) sensors are actually cheaper. I would advise doing all 4 . If 2 are bad, the other 2 are likely not far behind. I don't remember the exact brand, but I got mine off of Amazon, and I have not had any issues with them after several years.

Got mine from Tire Rack - type dependent on year of vehicle. First set lasted a solid 14 years. Still on the 2nd set. Usual early warning of failure is excessive time to register pressure.
