Default Battery Tender Issue

I have been having an issue with my Battery Tender Plus in the last week or so. I noticed that the green light and red light will alternately flash. I have unplugged it for a couple of days and plugged it back in. The red light will come on showing that it is charging then the green light will show that it is charged. After a couple days or so the green and red light will alternately flash again. I have done this twice and it does the same thing. Has anybody had this happen to their Tender and if so what is the problem? Just a note I have checked the internet with this issue and the problem is either the Tender is going bad or the battery is bad. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this same problem with their Tender. I have contacted Deltran about 3-4 days ago and have not heard anything back from them.

Thanks for the response, but the polarity is correct..black on negative and red on positive. Again thanks for the response.

Read the directions again. Disconnect the cables and start with the red to positive, than black to negative in that order. That’s how I read it.

Give the above a try. If it doesn’t work, have the battery checked.

Try It on a known good battery to tell if it is the tender or battery.

I'd buy this "on sale" BatteryMinder. The company that invented desulphination.

Just as an aside, I've had several Battery Tender failures. I can only seem to get 4-5 years of service from them and then they either begin acting erratically, or die all together. The CTEK chargers have been more reliable for me, but of course they are also more expensive.

I tried the above last night with the red being hooked up first then the black and will let you know if it works. I have had this tender for about 15 years. I did forget to mention this. To be honest with everyone that has responded I have always hooked the neg up first then positive and this is the first time I have ever experienced this issue.

I just had my first battery tender failure. I have both bikes plugged into their own tenders at this time of year.
I went to take one out for a ride on Friday and the battery was dead. The lights on the tender were flashing instead
of solid green. Put a different tender on the bike overnight and it started right up this morning. I'll junk
the bad tender and cut the lead off to use it for some other accessory.

Something similar happened to me. I use the cig lighter receptacle to plug the tender in. One day I noticed the lights were alternating on and off just as you described. I got in the car and rotated the plug and made sure I had a good connection. After that everything worked. So, suggest you check your connections whatever method you use.

Hmmm. I always connected the black wire to the nut next to the battery "box" and then the red cable to the red battery terminal. Then I connect the power cord to the extension power cord already plugged in. That's it!

No issues, ten years later.

I have done the same only black to the neg terminal and then red to positive. I then connect the power cord to the extension cord as well. This is the first issue I have in 15 years.

I hooked the red first to the positive terminal and then black to the negative terminal. I then plugged the charger power cord in the extension cord (the thicker orange one) and then plugged the extension cord into the wall. I did this on Sunday evening. I have checked each day and so far seems to be charging correctly. If it starts to alternate flashing again I will let you know. I will then have the battery checked to make sure all is good.

I just wire in the plug in connector and no worry with what you do.

I have in on each car and tractor.

my oldest tender is about 20 years and still works fine.

I went out in the garage today and found the tenders lights flashing again. I guess the next step is to have the battery checked to see if it is bad. The next step if the battery is good is to get another tender or similar charger.

Replace the battery with a new one... like every couple of years. Simple thing to do as opposed to you saving a buck.

I had a similar issue with one of the waterproof Tenders where the lights were flashing. Fortunately it was still under warranty and Deltran replaced it.

I think I have another one that is starting to go bad. It just never gets to the point of a solid green light regardless of which vehicles battery I connect it to. I'll plug in one of my other Tenders to the same battery and it goes solid green quite quickly.
