There are a lot of people on the forum with a lot more experience with the oil consumption problems then I have, but I would think 1 quart in 5000 miles would be very normal. JMO

At the first 5000 miles you should have been on oil change #3, if that was indeed the first oil change and it used 1qt. I would be one happy camper if I was you. :yesnod:

That is completely normal. All sports cars consume a little bit of oil at times.... Depends on the way you drive it ... I normally change my oil every 700 to 1,200 miles. I dont see any problem with consumpsion of oil at this time. But I have heard that ethe 2001 Z06's tend to burn more oil then the 2002's ????? Please inform me about this.

Z06fg,
This is entirely cool..as long as you have been driving it WITH gusto...and a lot.
GM's position on oil usage, is 1qt per 2000 miles....any more than that, and Houston we got a potential problem.

The '02's, have been included with the '99-'01's, C5's, Camaro's/ T/A's.....for excessive consumption problems.

The reason for this is the potentially defective valley PCV cover...(leaks).
You start using more than 1qt per 2000.............get it checked out.

To each his own here on this topic..but, changing synthetic oil at less than 5-6k miles is a waste of hard earned $$$.

Change the filter if you want, but it's a waste throwing perfectly good Mobil 1 out at these mileage #'s........fwiw.and YOMV.
;)

I personally would(and do) change the oil every 3000 miles. The oil does not break down, it just becomes contaminated. If you could just change the filter, then fine but if you are going to go through that trouble, you may as well change the oil. I know many marine applications where they use a "bypass" filtration system and just change the filters and the oil can go just about forever. SO it is the contamination of the oil, not the break down of it that we are worried about. With that said, 1 qt in 5000 miles would be fairly normal. Especially if you drive the car hard.
