I know the title sounds horrible, because it is, but last night on my way home a raccoon ran out in front of the car, I tried my very best to avoid hitting it but unfortunately I did hit it, Broke my heart ...
When I got home I checked my bumper to see if there was any damage, not thinking there would be mind you, and to my surprise there was significant paint damage to it....
I'm a painter by trade so I will be repairing this myself but I would love to hear if other people have had similar misfortune....
Streets are raccoon’s only natural predator. A study showed raccoons tend to live in the same block and rarely cross a street.
Actually Rabies has been a major cause of death. We had to shoot one not long ago that was not well. The state is dropping things for them to eat to kill off the sick ones.
We have a bigger issue here. beavers. They like to cross roads and are much larger. They can cause some major damage.
A friend of mine just hit a raccoon with his Toyota minivan, did $1300 damage to the front bumper cover and fog light! You got extremely lucky with your encounter! Even better that you can fix your damage
I ran over a complete deer carcus in my C7 a few years ago and I do mean the entire body to the point where the car rode up. No damage whatsoever to the bumper but deer skin got wedged between the exhaust and plate. Car smelled horrible for 2 weeks.
I remember a guy I went to school with hit a large Dog with a 72 Cutlass. It caved in the bumper and grill. Then the owner tried to take him to court for hitting the dog. So they countered him and won and he got his car repair paid for. He was willing to let it go as he felt bad for the owner but when they went after him his lawyer said that dog should not have been running loose and it did the damage to the car and you are liable for it. The judge agreed.
I thing, never hit a Moose. I have seen some terrible photos of those.
BTDT. Nailed a beaver in mine on the driver's side. Had no where to swerve to miss - either hit it or put the car into a guard rail, and had a WRX on my *** too close to hit the brakes. Had the shop that replace my rocker panel repaint.

I barely missed a moose one afternoon. I had no idea how large and bad tempered those animals were. He was bigger than a very large horse and he started to charge at me when I stopped to catch my breath! I was more terrified of him, than brown bears that I've seen up close ... not that I would ever get out of the car with a bear nearby. They are equally dangerous, just not quite so intimidating.

I did something similar a few years back and it smelled delicious... Cooking meat

Most bears will run but a momma moose will kill you.
I take it that was not in Texas. I know it is a big state but lol..
I saw a larger Trailblazer hit one and it went though the windshield and out the back. The car looked like bomb went off. The driver was reported to almost lost an arm.

Nope, we have all sorts of other animals in Texas that will kill you, but AFAIK, no moose. I ran into (almost) that moose up in Maine. That was my first trip to Maine and I had never been eyeball to eyeball with a moose before. I hope never to repeat the experience!

I would expect the Armadillos are the thing to dodge in a C5, They are bit tougher than the Coons. They would put a hole in a bumper.
There have been rumors of moose sightings in NE Ohio. Not sure I buy that yet because we also get a lot of BigFoot sightings not to mention Mothman. They drink a bit east of here.
Though I see Bigfoot about once a year when they bring the truck into work. Got a ride in the parking lot one year.

Moose in NE Ohio?!?!?! I'll bet that area also has a disproportionate number of alien abductions and **** probes, as well! lol
There must be something in the water ... or in the gene pool.

No just bigfoot sightings and investigators.
We do suspect a number of folks married to a cousin at the numerous trailer parks outside the large government facility there.
To be honest I think some just see the large deer in the area. That explains the moose.the rest hmm…
Little update, got the bumper all repaired and repainted, came out pretty good , and got some vette lights corners for it, will put those in this weekend.
