Default Muffler hanger bushing replacement

After replacing my cat back exhaust with a Z06 Ti version, I found that the tips are uneven. I tried the leveling with a floor jack trick. It did level it with the support but once you tightened it up and removed the support, the tip fell back down…I noticed it was due to the one hanger bushing being ‘softer’ than the other and unable to hold one tip higher than the other. I took them out and took a picture. Are they bad?

If so, does the Corvette clip hardened insert fix this problem?

thanks

You can try wedging a piece of flat stock under the muffler hanger in the rubber bushing to allow it to sit higher.

Or you could bend the hanger bracket a little to make them sit level.

They don't look worn to me.

They don't look too bad to me, either. I had one that was real bad, so I called Vettenuts and got a different set. Much better. One thing I did to help equalize the heights before I got the new set was I used a piece of 3/32" thick rubber I had laying around the garage to shim the low side higher. CAUTION!!! GM just inserted a short bolt into the support-before they assembled it-that holds the brackets up with a nut screwed to it. If you're not careful, you can push the bolts up inside the framework, because they weren't welded in place and theres no retaining clips, either. Proceed with caution!!!

Those Corvette clips inserts are great. I've been running them for almost 3 years now. Highly recommended.

Where are you referring to?

Like the upper smaller hole in the rubberized part?

Muffler hanger goes in the small hole. Put some metal or rubber between the rubber isolator and muffler hanger. Or again, bend the muffler hanger down to raise the muffler.

@Stingroo Can you elaborate exactly what these are? I'm not familiar with them. Thank you......

They are 3D printed inserts that are firm and lock the mufflers in at a certain point so they will be straight. To install, you remove the stock bushings, cut the rubber out of the metal bracket, and these slip in place and are held by the bolts - like this:

]

I did some install photos for him when I ordered my set and he was kind enough to refund me a portion of the order. I've had them on my car since April of '21 and they have held up great!

Google corvette clips, they make these interesting solid bushings. I find it a bit cheaper to buy from their own site than eBay or Etsy, no taxes on their site.

Great pictures for their details...I think I will go with this. The solid material fixated the muffler once you bolt it up, while the original bushing can sag and drop a bit depending on how/where worn the rubber is

Thank you for the details. Where are the bolts that hold them to the bracket? Or are they pinched between the bracket and the cars frame?

Pinched in the bracket. Uses the stock hardware.

Why did you swap your cat back exhaust for a factory TI. sound, look, originality?

I did it for awhile, too - the sound was nice and tame. And SIGNIFICANTLY lighter. But I eventually went back to my other exhaust because I missed the rumble.

Thanks, Sting. Did you find the bolts wanted to push up inside the frame, or do I have a unicorn??

Yeah, they are a bit of a pain. I found that putting a little sideways pressure on them using the bracket will hold it enough to get it started and then I just zip it on with my electric ratchet.

For me, it was purely to undo previous owner's muffler delete...and happened to see a nice TI set for sale on Facebook at 200+.
