Hi, a bit of a last-ditch attempt, I bought a 2004 Vette in 2021 with 74,000 miles. When I smogged it this year I found out the odometer had been rolled back at least 30,0000 miles. I'm trying to find the previous owner of the car to confirm the dealership did the rollback. Any help as far as how to find him would be appreciated. Or if the previous owner is on here by chance? The vin is 1G1YY22G745128108 for a 2004 Lemans Blue coupe
Not so fast.... I would want to know who did that smog test and have them prove the mileage. Carfax does show an inspection happened on 9/10/2021, but it also shows it was sold on 8/26/21 by Maita Chevrolet with 74,652 miles and then offered for sale by the guys you got it from (presumably), Hawthorne Motors Express, at 74,653 miles.
Yeah, that's quite a lot of miles to put on a Vette during COVID. Seems fishy. Is there any other shop near you that can pull data like that? A second opinion / inspection perhaps?
Agree with last 2 posts. Either someone who shouldnt be working for the DMV, or its shown in km. Either way, sounds like the DMV "tech" screwed up big time. Big question is how to rectify? Hard to talk sense to state or feds......
I don't even remember what vehicle I had that this occur to but I had an emissions inspection and they entered the mileage wrong. It was probably 25 years ago and they were a piece of money grabbing you know what system.
what state?
in NY and CT the inspector enters the milage. could easily have been a screw up.
Happened to me on my '67 vette, and it was a royal pain in the *** every year to explain to the tech that the milage was incorrectly entered at one point.
It is not trivial to roll back the odo on a c5. FAR more likely that this was a mistake.
When I bought/registered my out of state car last year the inspector wrote the odometer reading incorrectly. It was only a few hundred miles lower than it actually was but it was enough to clip a previous service and would have flagged an odometer discrepancy
gotta watch what is entered when data is entered on your car. Unfortunately some don’t care or are dyslexic and the owner is left with an issue
