A group of us from our local Corvette club were together last night, and two C5 owners mentioned they'd converted their non-HUD cars (98 and 99) to HUD. I never would have thought this was easily or affordably possible. The 98 owner said he bought a used instrument panel with HUD and only had to have the odometer set to match his mileage and also had some wiring mods made. The 99 owner said his dash pad had cut lines on the inside to make whatever cut he needed, and then he was able to fit the HUD projector. There may have been other mods needed; I'm not sure. Both said that the windshield image was readable even though they had standard glass.
Anyway, I was quite surprised that this was doable, so just out of curiosity, is this an upgrade that's commonly made? Or at least, done enough that it shouldn't be surprising?

A number of years ago this was a popular upgrade to the non-HUD cars. There were a number of threads on the subject, including detailed instructions if I recall correctly. If you PM me an e-mail address, I can send you a number of Word files pertaining to this mod.
Thx, appreciate the offer, but not needed. I don't have a C5; I was just a bit surprised that this mod wasn't uncommon, and was curious about it's popularity. Sounds like it's more common than I would have thought.
