Gutted precats?

I was thinking about gutting my precats, just want a little more sound out of my 01. I think it should still pass emissions fine, since I read that the precats are only for cold starts until the main cats fire off?

Anyone done this, and is there an increase in exhaust sound volume, or tone?

Tim,

Yes this can be done. It will gain about 3-5hp and slightly deeper sound and still remain fine for emissions.......

Pre cats? are they before the big cats? how big are they? and where are they. that sounds like what I need to do.

There just b4 the main cats on 01's only bout 3" in diamater..........

were they on the 02. i dont wana gut my main cats but i want more sound. thats why im so interested. If it has them and wont set any codes ill do it soon.
