Default C5 problems?

A friend is considering a 1999 vert w/47K miles, AT, great condition.

I'm trying to help him out, but I know nothing about C5s. Are there any common problems he should be aware of?

TIA!

Larry

I have a ‘99, and love it. That said, there are quite a number of problems common to the C5 — mine has had many of them. This link tells the story of many, and a quick google search will reveal a half dozen YouTube videos covering much of the same:

Here are some good reads regarding the C5:

Someone might read through all that and think the C5 is a terrible car. But this is a car with a huge fan club and support network that helps each other and has detailed every possible problem you can come across. Not all C5s will have these problems but it’s good info to have especially for those that are looking at C5s for sale.

The biggest debate out there seems to be between the 97-00 and the 01-04 cars due to the different EBCM designs along with some improvements for the engine and drivetrain on the later cars. Knowing all this I still bought my 2000 and never looked back. I prioritized the options I wanted over the model year.

Guys,

Thanks for your info, and for those links. I'll copy them and send them to my friend.

See attached for the car he's looking at.

A beautiful color spec car especially if it still has those magnesium wheels.

^ No it doesn't. Somebody downgraded to the twin spokes.

That's a bummer. Magnesiums look like this:

Not my pic, but I can tell you Tail of the Dragon is awesome. We did a giant road trip in 2019 and had a blast up there.

Those mag wheels are my favorite.
