Default 80 mph warning

had new shocks including the "spoofing kit" installed on a 2003 coupe.on way home 80 mph warning appeared though I wasn't close to 80...so I took it to 80 and it wouldn't allow any higher..like that feel you get on cruise..mechanic now gone for weekend. does it matter which ride mode is used? this occurred while in touring?thanks

So, with a 2003, you have magnetic shocks. You need to have a TECH2 computer program out the F55 module and then disconnect the actual module inside the trunk.

I don't know what "kit" I was sold but mechanic said would have no issues and that's why I was asking about the setting once this kit is installed..thanks

This is how it's done
Hook up your Tech 2 (Driver's footwell), turn the car ON, make sure the module in the left rear storage compartment (pull back the velcro lining on the front of the compartment) is plugged in. DO NOT UNPLUG THIS MODULE

2. Now use the Tech 2 to delete the F45 option ( F55 option does not appear on the Tech 2 menu screen - SO - DELETE THE F45 OPTION
(use the screen captures - steps 2-14)

3. Save the new configuration

4. DO NOT TURN THE CAR OFF DO NOT REMOVE THE TECH 2 Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the GRAY connector - IT IS THE WIDEST ONE - leave the other 1 (F/45) or 2 (F/55) plugged in.

5. Turn off the car but LEAVE THE TECH 2 PLUGGED IN

6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of the car - Never plug them back in again, if you do the F/45 turns on automatically.

7. Now the moment of TRUTH - Turn the car on and verify that the dreaded - MAX SPEED 80 MPH - is gone. This message was only present if you had already disconnected the shock sensors. Some people have had to disconnect their battery to allow the computer to reset to remove this message, but I would confirm with the Tech II that the F/45 was actually deleted first and if not reconnect everything and start again with step 1.

8. Unplug the Tech 2 - Get in the car and take it for a ride. Smile as you pass the DREADED 80 MPH.

Your mechanic would be correct if you had en earlier year C5 with F45 suspension. The bypass simulators only work on F45 adjustable shocks. Your 2003 has the F55 suspension which as stated above requires a tech 2 to remove the RPO. The bypass simulators will not work for your car.

I left mine in even after using my Tech2 to prevent water intrusion into the wire harness

He screwed up and didn't know what he was doing. Since he's doing the programing for free, get him to take them out and cap the plugs, then at least you can sell them to someone with the F45 suspension and recoup some of the cost.

so drove again today without the tech 2 procedure being done yet..no 80 mph alert nor backoff at 80..took it up to 100 and no issues..backed down to 70 and punched it up again way past 80..absolutely no warning or any interruption in power??
what's going on??
FYI..production date on this is 3/11/2003..which I would think is a later production date which is supposed to have the f55???
clueless
