Check out the various Sticky threads at the top of the C5 General and C5 Tech sections. Lots of very good info can be found there about the C5 platform and what to look for when wanting to buy.
The gatekeeping is strong in this thread. Drifting is ruining a C5? How about a gutted and roll caged road race car? Or a drag car? Or an automatic equipped car with every under hood surface covered in chrome caps and covers with stick on wood dash overlays and flags stuck to the windshield header and chrome tail light covers and that dumb chrome piece with flags on it between the tail pipes with a sign that says how the car is rare because it was built on a Wednesday in February and one of the floor mats didn’t match? Are those also ruined?
Hey, it’s your car, do whatever you want to it. That is, unless I disagree with it.
Okay, if you have to ask what the best engine for drifting is, then you don't know squat about drifting to begin with. An LS swap is one of the most common powerplant choices for drifting after they've blown their original engines to smithereens. Setting up a suspension for drifting is easy: just go through whatever catalog you want and buy the stiffest coilovers they make, the biggest sway bars they make, and replace every suspension joint you can with pillowballs. Then put low profile, hard compound tires sized for a little stretch on it, set it up with a hydraulic hand brake, a racing seat, a cage, and gut the whole interior. Then fire it up and go drive it sideways into a curb or a wall. Voila! You're a drift monsta!!!
That is about the most you would need to do to make a C5 a GREAT DRIFT car, yup, once you get the steering sorted, the C5 rocks as a drift car. Don't let the haters deter you! There is enough power in a stock LS1/C5 to drift nicely, but getting the car up to ~500RWHP will make it a drift monster-
