Side molding residue

Side molding residue
I just got my first c5 a few days ago and removed the side molding. It definitely wasn’t taken care if well, and this residue was left behind. Any ideas what it is or how to remove it? Wouldn’t come off with a rubber wheel/goo gone, scraping with a credit card, or a good wash. Thanks!

I have thought about doing the same thing to my C5 but worried about this exact issue.
Goo Gone is what I was going to suggest but since you tried that I would search for more / different ones that people recommend.
This guy uses another "citrus cleaner" and WD-40 - says to use a heat gun and credit card can work too... but of course this is on a newer C7.
Start at about the 8:30 mark of the video.

I did mine. Used fishing line,
a heat gun, soft plastic scaper and then WD40. After it was all off. I washed it to get all the chemical (WD40) off. Then I used a polishing compound on a dual action polisher

Ok got it, mine didn't have that, would assume that is wax and dirt build up. Try WD40 if you havent yet. If that doesn't work, I would wet sand it with 1000 grit then come back with 1500 grit then dual action polisher

You can try some rubbing compound...lightly in a small spot, it most likely will get that all off. You can actually just try some polish first since that will be less abrasive.

Monsters Adhesive Remover
Use Saran Wrap over it to prevent drying of the solution.
let penetrate several hours or overnight
Remove with Plastic Razor-blade or credit card or Bondo Applicator
WD40 or Jet-A (Kerosene) also works
key is Saran Wrap and Keeping your penetrant wet and on for a few hours

If it was just dirt yes it it is still adhesive it needs a solvent. This is why in said lighter fluid. It is a solvent and it dissolves the adhesive. It is oil based so it will not harm the paint.
