I have a 2002 c5 automatic convertible all stock accept the the Corsa extreme Titanium exhaust. the tires are goodyear exilerate tires, I have a pretty simple question with performance mode turned on . from just sitting and stomping on the gas shouldn't I be able to break the tires or am I asking for too much .The reason I ask is there are those seldom times I wanna show off a little bit to friends and family but I get the most pathetic chirp when I stomp on it ( flashback to my teen 6 cyl caviler days) I literally have to brake tork ( I know its not good to do ) and let the tires spin up before it can at least not look so lame,
I tried new plugs and wires
Did i Buy a POS and something is not right or am I asking too much from an automatic c5?
I can easily answer the question because I have owned two 2002 verts. When I got both of these cars, they had older run flat tires. First the OEM Goodyear and later one had Michelin. I could easily spin the tires because they were hard and not sticky. When I replaced tires with Hankook V12's I had trouble breaking them loose even with the M6 transmission. Now I have an A4 with the performance axel and can easily break the tires loose at a standing stop with old Michelin tires indicating it is time for new ones. Havin the car hook up and go is better than doing burn outs and safer for handling. My guess is you have good tires.
Without a higher stall converter and/or SOME engine mods, it’s not going to smoke the tires. In stock form these cars will go high mph, but are designed to protect the driveline from torque shock from a standing start.
the idea behind "performance mode" is to prevent wheel spin so as to maximize traction (and therefore speed). if you want to do a burnout, turn traction & stability controls off.
the high-geared rear end and automatic transmission are separate but equal detractors to your smoky dreams.
Differential final drive ratio will make a huge difference on how the car accelerates from a stop.. If you look at the SPID label on the glove lid...
3.15 is "G92" code "Performance" Gear ration on the Auto trans and is better off the line
2.73 is "GU2" standard rear ratio is the "Highway" cruiser gear
Std gear on the manual 6 speed cars was 3.42...
Put an RPM diff in there with 3.73 gears and 3200 stall and you can light a 305 tire up whenever you want, or get some drag radials and launch that car.
