Here is your easiest solution. Do what I did. Get the C3 the wife wants. And have the standard shift vette you want. Its been the best ever haveing these two great fun cars that suit our persoal likes. .My wife follows me everywhere,,,,👍😄👍
Had C2's for 45 years all were 4 speeds. Eight years ago I got a 1998 C5 with the A4 with the 315 rear and love it. It has 72k on it has been tracked, drag raced, and mostly driven on twisty back roads for 50k. To have the most fun with it never put it in D unless you are on highway. Third for city and manual shift it for the twistys. Almost as much fun as the 6 speed and knee does not hurt. Brakes tires battery and a water pump have been the only repairs on it. Find a nice one you can't have any more fun for anywhere near the price. And did I mention mine is the dreaded year series 1998 LOL to the naysayers and perfectionists.

The 2003 Corvette that I had for 9+ years had the A4 with 3.15 rear gears in it and I had no problems at all with it. Never felt like it was a slouch. Having come from two prior six speed manual transmission C5s, I had no complaints about have an automatic.
It’s a somewhat adequate transmission at stock power. Sure if you drive the car like a Toyota it will last. Drive it hard and it will leave you on the side of the road at some point.
Add more power than stock and you better keep your AAA membership up to date.
