Default Recommendation for TPMS sensors ?

I guess when I soon replace my tires I will also have to replace my TPMS sensors. I have one original that stopped working and the others are probably about done. I would just as soon not have them but only if I wouldn't get the dash message. My research says the older C5's like my 99 do not have the option to turn off the sensors. That leaves me to decide which replacement sensors to get.I see alot of different ones available. I was wondering if any of you could make a recommendation ? Thanks

I bought Schrader last year when I did mine. Just make sure you get the right frequency, should be 315Mhz.

Looks like OEM replacements are rather expensive. Aftermarket ones have a much better price but I'm reading mutiple negative comments. Not sure it's worth the hassle to have these working. I may just get use to pushing the reset button when I start the car. To bad this feature can't simply be disabled. They say that isn't possible on a 99 model.

I put Schraders on my 2000 when I changed wheels and tires a few years ago. Took a few seconds to program. Never had a problem since.

Changed the sensors in my 2000 FRC with Schrader 29178s. Had to get the activation tool from Amazon ($12.00) worked without issue. Bought a second set for my autocross wheels and they work without issue every time I mount them up. Do the relearn with the activation tool, takes 5 minutes.

There have been quite a few threads about using the newer Schrader sensors for the ‘97-‘00’s and buying the inexpensive triggering tool. The best piece of advice is to program them before mounting the tires.

If you find anyone selling the OEM magnetically triggered sensors, they will be new old stock. I chose to go that route a year ago because Costco would not accept anything but OEM if the sensors were customer supplied ( their usual source did not have sensors available).

If you search the forum, you will find a very comprehensive thread on TPMS.

That thread is recent and comprehensive.
There is little reason to disable or live without the system. Sensors are available and easy to program.
PROGRAM THEM BEFORE YOU INSTALL THEM. There are many sensors that will not work and if for some reason you have those it's helpful to figure that out before they are inside your tires and installed on the car.

Sounds like a good way to go.

Avoid any chinese off brand items. Buy name brand sensors for a known reliable source.
Super cheap ebay sensors, may work, but since the labor to replace them is $$, why take a chance on a sensor that should last 8-12 years?
Also, the make black or chrome/white valve stems. Get what matches your rims.
