Well, I got lucky. The ad was accurate and correct. I got the C7 Comp wheel for $106. I guess I'll have to invest some attention into seeing if I can make it work for me in the future.
Looks like this model was intended for an automatic equipped car. No bother. I have plenty of parts to swap between if I can figure out a clock spring and airbag - which may never happen like I said.
Either of them look much better with the darked out center bezel. I know they were grey to go with the dash colors in the C7, but I think even those look better darked out. Not a big fan of hydro graphics which the bezel is but it does seem to fit.
A few pics of my Redline steering wheel installed in the car. I am going to post it for sale in a day or two if my friend decides not to buy. I don't think he is going to purchase it but we will see.
Sorry but once i. saw the first pic. The first thing that came to mine was
I'm also torn on owning a suede wheel since it WILL get dirty and matted over time. Right now I stick to cheap suede wheel covers that you sew on the OEM wheel. Doesn't help the diameter issue but it helps with the feel of it.
Redline wheel does look a little odd being small diameter and so fat.
For the price I'll most likely get a Revesol wheel with flat bottom and a little shape to it with a red stripe at the top.
suede wheels are actually not difficult to keep clean/nice. Now if you're a filthy animal - don't get one. But I've been daily driving a suede wheel for over a year now and have have little additional effort to keep it clean over a leather alternative.
Those C7 wheels look like a video game controller.
j/k
The benefit is that for the smaller diameter they don't look ridiculous with either the large center section or wheel itself. The paddles and the buttons at 5 and 7 can all be removed if desired, leaving only the thumb controls. Thankfully those blend away into the background with a dark bezel in place.
I would love the C7Z wheel in my car if I could accept not having an airbag. I ran an aftermarket wheel with no airbag in my previous 95 Camaro, but with he C5 I wanted to be able to take it anywhere on trips etc and should be smart about it keeping the airbag.
That's a good material match for two different products from two different companies.
Exactly my thought. I was eyeing not only the dye colors but the material pattern and placement.
I found another wheel company another Corvette guy used: TTB on fb. Odd that they look almost exactly like some of the other vendors and made me begin to wonder if there is a sub-section of producers using a larger unnamed chinese vendor. Or maybe every fabricator has the same design styles in mind to meet consumer desire.
They look good. I just don't have the interest/need in changing the shape of my wheel. With the C7 wheels I honestly went with it for the Z06 badge in carbon fiber initially. I do also have a round C7 wheel. The fun thing about lurking the C7 and C8 pages occasionally is that guys over there are spending big vs C5s and they will cast off some parts which would otherwise be worth money for a song. Wheels, tires, brakes are big ones pre race season for example.

Yep. I was concerned that the perforated sections wouldn't line up, but they did and you can't tell the two sections weren't provided by the same manufacturer. I guess black is easier to match up than other colors or stitching. After seeing the airbag cover that Mark (Grape Ape/Mstromquist) installed and how it really helped complete the look, I gave it a shot.
But those Redline D-shaped wheels are not a smaller diameter correct?
They are slightly smaller top to bottom due to the d-shape, flat bottom. The diameter of the wheel is a little larger as well due to the thickness and quality of the leather compared to the OEM material. The other wheel posted earlier looks to have been double-wrapped making it even more thick.
