Steering Column Lock
I get this message in the DIC. I got the car yesterday;-))) It's a 50 th Anniversary Edition.
On the webside www.Ls1howto.com you can read :2001 and later model automatic cars do not have a column lock at all.
Then why do I get this in my DIC

The car I am looking has a production date of 12/2000. I am new to the C5 ( I own a C3 and C4) and looking to buy one but I am confused by all the various posts on the steering lock issue. Is there a simple explanation for idiots like me that cuts to the chase rather than trying to sift thru all the myriad of posts full of opinions and "fixes" that a search turns up?

it's a threat you can mitigate by mounting the famous column lock lure device (100 bucks for a decent sustainable one , one hour work)

Is there any chance I can have the steering lock up while I am driving the car? What production years with manual transmissions do not have the steering lock?

The threat is'nt to lock up while driving but to don't lock out before starting the car. When it happens front wheels are and will stay locked in position and engine won't crank. This ending issue is preceded by the "Service column lock" alarm during months/weeks/days.
