Default Advice on modification options

Long time lurker, first time poster. This forum has been super helpful on guiding me through my 2004 6-speed base model.

I HATE the gearing. I alternate daily a VW GTI and it's a lot of fun just ringing out 1st and 2nd and still being under about 70-80... I've been looking into the 3.90 differential swap for the Corvette so I can have a similar experience rather than the dull gearing I currently have.

My question is: I've been quoted about $1600 to do the full swap over to 3.90 (from 3.42). Do I just save up for the 8-10 k difference and get a c5z instead? I hear the gearing on that is "roughly" equivalent to a 3.90 swapped base manual. I don't know that I ever really plan on modifying more, I bought mine with an air intake and corsa exhaust already installed (have considered a short shifter). The extra benefits of the c5z are however tempting.

(Further info maybe not important: my car is an "accident reported" car, only has 33000 miles, assuming it's already been tuned for air intake/exhaust as it runs and drives perfect. In the picture my car is yellow, dad's auto is silver, my aunts auto is 50th edition. It's a family tradition...)

Thanks everybody, seems like a great community here!
Alex

If it were mine and I were happy with the car except for the gearing I'm spending $1600 instead of $8000 to get a few features I don't really care about right now.
Your car isn't going to drop in value because you change the gears. You can still spend $8k and swap after you make the change if you're not happy.

if you're going to do it, go all in with 4.10s

Sounds like a reasonable approach to me.
