Iam wanting to make my all stock c5 just a little louder without throwing a ton of money at it at least for now, I've heard about welding in a couple pieces of pipe right before the mufflers on both sides called a bypass. Simply bypassing most exhaust past muffler. My question has anyone have any experience doing this, how much should it cost and what about sound, appriciate all input thank you

Maybe buy this cat back exhaust?
Yeah it’s not Borla or Corsa, which you already said you don’t want to throw a ton of $$ on.
I read some reviews and people say it sounds good but tips are hard to align, I bought brand new Borla and the tips are also hard to align.

The bypass mod on the exhaust was, and may still be, a viable option to getting a whole new catback system. A good muffler shop should be able to do the mod for around a couple of hundred bucks I would think, but seems like exhaust work has gotten expensive any more.
This is on my car. It sounds amazing for the money. It burbles on decel and has the perfect volume for me, a person that values good tone over volume. It's not a great looking exhaust, the tips are less than ideal and the cans hang a little low, but my tips are perfectly aligned.
So here's another question, I've also thought about electric cutout on my base 01 with all stock exhaust. Can anyone recomend a brand, location best installed, and size of my exhaust pipe to buy kit.
I think the bypass pipes sound terrible. It makes a raspy chugga-chugga sound. It may be OK if you also get an X pipe. You can get instead a take off z06 exhaust for a couple hundred dollars that sounds nice, it's the "mama bear" option of not too quiet (like stock) and not too loud (like aftermarket). Also less weight because it's titanium.

Show me a Z06 cat back for a couple hundred dollars and I’ll buy it ! They are selling around $400 - $700, $400 being very poor condition.
I'm currently buying a takeoff from a Z06 with only 300 miles on it for $450. The bad news is it's in South Dakota and I'm in Kansas City. The shipping is more than the exhaust...
Update: the deal fell through. Ups wanted double what was originally quoted. Found another set of mufflers in Wichita. Going to drive there Saturday.

Just found one for $450. It’s about 200 miles away, but the seller will meet me halfway. It needs the tips polished, otherwise look fine. I guess you just need to keep the faith.
