I agree - if you need catalytic converters for smog testing, just buy a set and have them installed.

Lot of variables at play. What state are you in? California requires CARB specific cats -- seem to recall New York has specific requirements as well. Rear O2 sensors tuned out? Shelling out for a whole new system seems excessive to me. Why not stop at your best local muffler shop, preferably independent, and see what they can offer. There are a number of aftermarket cats available at several inner diameters. It should be possible to find some that fit both your mid pipe and your floor plan.
