2003 C5 - Lingenfelter build - not crazy - 550 HP / 443 on the rears. Stock torque tube went out 2 weeks ago. I dont have a lift and I drink way to much beer to fit under it so I towed it to the dealer. Get this - the Same mechanic has been working on this Vert since it came from Lingenfelter in 2003. I trust him. He Told me the torque tube needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I can get a rebuilt one from RPM for $1200 with $200 for shipping. Install is another $2600.00 I can't seem to find any other shops that offer these other than RPM. Does anyone have any options? I don't have a press or tools to rebuild it myself. Nor do I have a lift. In St. Louis area. Does anyone have any other options other than RPM? What else should I replace while he has it apart? Thanks for the advice.
I'm in the St Louis area and just had mine rebuilt about 4 years ago. I had Chad at CBI Street Cars in De Soto Mo rebuild mine. I don't remember the price or their phone number. I don't see any reason to replace the actual drive shaft. The bearings and couplers weren't too expensive. I was replacing the clutch and figured while it was out, may as well rebuild it. If your mechanic can rebuild it, I would have them rebuild it. Once the torque tube is out of the car, it should only take a short period of time to rebuild it, if they have access to the presses to remove and install bearings.

i keep hearing about CBI in De Soto. Some of the other dealers don't like them. Not sure why. Anyway, thank you, That's an option.
Ended up going to Chad at CBI Street Cars in De Soto Mo - total cost to remove, rebuild with solid bushings and reinstall $2364.00 with oil change. I wanted to take it to the Elco but, they have to put themselves in my position - Its a $2200 difference. Runs just as well as before. Being a torque tube re-build, I would not expect any increased performance. Chad was good to work with. Got me in and out quickly. Good details on the job including pics. Thanks for all the advice ! next up? Winter crap - tires, new clear bra on the lower front bumper and possible window tint. See you at the track next spring!
What did I learn - well, there is a thing called a torque tube. It's labor intensive but someone with basic know how and a good set of tools (My dad is a tv repairman) could handle it as long as you have a good press. Rebuild kits from RPM ae $200.00. Solid bushings are more. https://rpmtransmissions.com/product...rebuild-kit-3/
You can get a carbon fiber drive shaft. Not needed on mine as it wont ever push over 600 HP at the rears.
No one mentioned "what else you should do" while in there; shouldn't you have a remote clutch bleeder installed?? Is that area accessible during this service?
