Anyone here have experience with a Thinkcar scanner, particularly the 689BT. I am looking for an advanced scanner without mortgaging my house to buy one, I was turned on to this one by a friend. Less than a Grand money wise and seems to have all the goodies I need plus many more. Thanks

That scan tool is really not a “code reader” which only reads Powertrain codes but a fully functional scan tool that is bidirectional and can read all modules…I prefer Autel or Launch but that model has free lifetime updates which is good…you just have to be careful where you buy it because if a “gray market” model it won’t be covered under the manufacturers warranty..I bought another Autel a few months ago and I bought it directly from Autel.

I went with a TOPDON artidiag900 after my Snap on Solus ultra bricked. I have not used it much to verify what it really has for bidirectional control compared to my old snap on. But for code reading and watching PIDS it is fine. The topdon and thinkcar look similar so I imagine they would be close in functionality. I will say for the price I paid I am happy. Your control function will vary with vehicle manufacturer and age.

You might want to consider a Tech II "clone" if you aren't concerned about using on non GM vehicles. They typically run around $300 - $400.
