I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with the subject insurance company. They specialize in antique, collector cars and non-daily driver type vehicles. If you have in the past or currently use them I would appreciate any input you may have.
i have a 1930 model A, a 1952 buick, and a 1966 mustang insured through grundy insurance. i might put a total of 500 miles a year on all 3 combined. insurance is about $175 per year for all 3 cars. not a bad deal. i have never had a claim with them. i've used them for almost 20 years.
Hagerty is the same way. Car must have collectable value. Silly considering the type of risk a person who ownes a z06 is. Maybe they will carry them in 15 years.
Thanks for your reply. My understanding is that as long as the car they are insuring is not a daily driver they will insure it. I'm going to contact them tomorrow and will post what I find out.
Let me know. I called Hagerty with 3 cars already on the policy and got refused. If Grundy will do it I'll use them instead of State Farm on the 06. I just don't trust State Farm anymore.
Grundy currently insures my 1999 frc c5. This car is not my daily driver also garage kept. This met their standards. Have a agreed value policy which is great. You set the value you want insured and they pay that price in the event of a total loss. Have not had to file a claim so can't speak for their claim service. I am happy with the policy price(around $550.00 a year). :yesnod:
Thanks for the info. I have been with State Farm for 33 years, I have never had and accident, I don't have any tickets and I am paying $1080 per year (6 months driving $140/month and $40/month stored) I picked the car up mid May with 62 miles on it (dealer trade) and put it away for winter end of October with 1020 miles on it. It's not that State Farm hasn't treated me well, I just think their cost is too high.
Brian, who is this Grundy, and what is there #?????
I also, am with State Farm, great agent, etc.........
BUT, I drive my Z around 50 -100 miles a week.
And pay in excess of $1200.00 per year..no accidents/tickets, multi car policy/homeowners, etc....
Would very much like to lower those #'s........
Thanks
Check out http://www.grundy.com or 800-338-4005. A car can't be a daily driver, must be garaged. No yearly mileage limits either. Their policy does not exclude autox or track day type of activities(I read it with a microscope!).
Well I did contact Grundy yesterday as I said I would and this is what I was told "they no longer will insure a car newer then a 1974, unless it is part of a car collection or considered an exotic and they don't consider the Corvette in this class".
I just got informatin from them was quoted a price(very good price at that) np on a 1990 ZR-1 and a 01 Z06. They state in the pamphlet that two cars are considered a collection. Price for both cars was very reasonable. They do have restrictions but providing the car(s) in question are stored in a garage and not primary transportation, they'll insure it.
Thank You for contacting GRUNDY WORLDWIDE's web site. Unfortunately, we
are
unable to insure vehicles that are newer than your regular
transportation
vehicles. Best of luck in your search for proper coverage on your
vehicle.
Respectfully,
GRUNDY WORLDWIDE
Give me a break! Probably the only insurance companies that are doing well are these speciality co. There must be too big of a payout in the event of an accident so they come up with lame excuses. Obviously the agreed value on this car is not nearly as subjective as a pre 74 car so they don't want it I guess. Don't insure cars newer than my regular transportation? Pathetic! I could buy into the '74 deal but this is too much. Heaven forbid you live in a dry climate and drive an older car.
I called GRUNDY too and got a price on my 01 Z06... it was reasonable ($600) for the entire package with $1,000,000 Liability. ONLY catch was that you cant take the car anywhere that is NOT affiliated with a vette event....like to work on a nice spring day, etc. It will not be considered a back up to your regular transportation. I know there will be a day that I want to run it just for kicks, and the exposure to the NUTS on the road just isnt worth it. My regular insurance is only $836/ yr and I can drive it ANYWHERE , ANYTIME. SO ITs gonna cost me $236 to ENJOY the car. GOOD LUCK! :steering:
I called earlier today about a quote for my 1990 corvette ZR1. I was told by a Grundy rep that they will not insure my car
because it is not "Part of a collection". I then responded that it is part of my collection, that happens to be only
one car.. Then the response back was " you must also have a car that is older than a 1974 model" (I think it was 74)
No where on there website did I see this?
Why do they tell me this, but others (Who do not have pre-1974 cars) can get insurance through them? :mad
Also if its true about the vette only event that stinks..
